Previously, on the afternoon of September 4, after receiving information from the people, the Cam Lo District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station and the Thanh An Commune People's Committee inspected 16/30 cows of 7 households in An Binh Village, Thanh An Commune. The households said they discovered the cows were sick on August 31 and used lemon and star fruit to treat them. By the morning of September 5, 1 calf had died.

Initially, the disease was spontaneously identified on the spot (the above sick cows were not vaccinated against FMD in the spring of 2024). The risk of an outbreak is very high because the herd of cattle was not vaccinated against FMD in the spring of 2024; the cattle were raised by grazing, all 7 households with sick cows lived close together and grazed in the same pasture.

After detecting the disease in cattle, Cam Lo district directed relevant sectors and local authorities to inform the people about the epidemic situation; strictly prohibit the purchase, transportation, and slaughter of cattle in the epidemic area. Instruct breeders to isolate and treat sick cattle, provide disinfectants and treat symptoms; commit to implementing epidemic prevention measures...

At the same time, organize emergency vaccination against FMD in the epidemic area. Resolutely handle cases of non-compliance with vaccination; strengthen monitoring to detect and report immediately when new outbreaks occur.

Cam Lo district also proposed the provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to support an additional 500 doses of FMD vaccine for vaccination, disinfectants and chemicals to treat symptoms for sick cows.
