'Breaking down barriers' to private economic development - Part 1: 'Push' for innovation

Along with over 90 thousand private enterprises nationwide, private enterprises in Thai Nguyen province have been making important contributions to the process of promoting economic growth. In recent years, implementing the Party and State's directive to promote private economic development, with the support and companionship of the province, private enterprises in Thai Nguyen have grown along with the development of the province and the country.

Unity in perception

Clearly identifying the important role of the private economic sector, accounting for a large proportion in quantity and creating many jobs for workers, in recent times, Thai Nguyen province has closely followed the direction of the Central Government to issue many directives, resolutions, and projects, creating unity from awareness to action of Party committees and authorities at all levels in implementing the long-term goal of promoting the sustainable development of the private economic sector.

Specifically, Resolution No. 10-NQ/TW dated June 3, 2017 of the 12th Party Central Committee on developing the private economy into an important driving force of the socialist-oriented market economy was concretized by the Provincial Party Committee through Action Program No. 20-CTr/TU dated October 4, 2017; The Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 90/KH-UBND dated May 12, 2023 on implementing Resolution No. 45/NQ-CP of the Government promulgating the Government's Action Program to continue implementing Resolution No. 10-NQ/TW in the province.

Thai Nguyen Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with Shopee Vietnam to organize training and guide businesses and cooperatives to open business booths on e-commerce trading floors.

In particular, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a Project to support small and medium enterprises, improve the competitiveness of enterprises in the period of 2021-2025; Plan No. 139/KH-UBND dated September 27, 2022 on developing digital technology enterprises in the province in the period of 2022-2025, with a vision to 2030. Implementing Resolution No. 01-NQ/TU dated December 31, 2020 of the Provincial Party Committee on the Digital Transformation Program (DT), Thai Nguyen province aims to have 700 DT enterprises by 2025...

Make it concrete by action.

In order to concretize the province's directives, resolutions, and projects, in recent times, departments, branches, and localities in the province have always focused on supporting and removing difficulties for businesses to develop. In particular, the Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) to organize dozens of training sessions for businesses and cooperatives on business skills on digital platforms, brand development, and livestream image building... At the same time, actively supporting businesses to connect products to e-commerce platforms and apply digital transformation in trade promotion. Thereby, effectively supporting businesses to expand their consumption markets and increase product value.

For example, the products of Ha Thai Tea Joint Stock Company in Ha Thuong Commune (Dai Tu) have been advertised and promoted through many online sales channels. Thanks to that, not only domestic but also foreign customers have known about the Company's products. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors (BOD), Director of Ha Thai Tea Joint Stock Company, said: Every year, the Company consumes about 600 tons of tea at more than 40 level I agents, domestic supermarkets and exports to a number of countries such as Korea, China, India, Russia, Sri Lanka, etc.

In coordination with the Department of Industry and Trade of Thai Nguyen in many activities to support enterprises in promoting digital transformation, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duong, Deputy Director in charge of the Center for Application of Information Technology and Digital Transformation in Trade Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade), assessed: Through training programs on business skills on digital platforms, brand development, and image building for enterprises in Thai Nguyen, it has supported enterprises to widely apply digital transformation in trade promotion, while narrowing the gap between big cities and localities in terms of the level of application of information technology and digital transformation in trade promotion.

As the standing agency in the province's digital transformation, the Department of Information and Communications (now the Department of Science and Technology) has coordinated with MISA Joint Stock Company to organize 4 seminars on digital transformation solutions in enterprises, cooperatives, and business households and 47 training courses and classes on skills in using and exploiting digital platforms through online and in-person conferences, with 1,728 enterprises, cooperatives, and business households participating.

The Department of Information and Communications has also coordinated with relevant units to support 546 enterprises, cooperatives, and business households to experience and use digital platforms and application software, such as: Unified enterprise management platform; accounting software for small and medium enterprises; electronic invoice software; digital signature service; restaurant and store management software, with more than 4,100 software copyright installations... Training courses and training programs are all implemented free of charge.

The numbers speak for themselves.

With the drastic direction of the Provincial People's Committee and the active support of departments, branches, and localities, the private economy in the province has made spectacular progress. Specifically, if by December 31, 2020, the whole province had 7,687 operating enterprises, in the past 4 years, the number of newly registered enterprises was 3,996, exceeding the target set by the province of developing an average of 800 enterprises each year. By the end of 2024, the total number of registered enterprises operating in the province will be 10,764, with a total registered capital of VND 153,990 billion.

Currently, the province has over 230,500 employees working in enterprises, of which the number of employees in large enterprises accounts for the majority (over 78%). Along with that, the contribution to the provincial budget of small and medium enterprises increases by an average of 10-12%/year. The contributions of the business community have helped the province's socio-economy develop rapidly, strongly and sustainably, affirming its position as the center of the midland and mountainous region of the North.

Among the enterprises and businessmen in the province, the most typical is businessman Nguyen Van Thoi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TNG Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company. From 2 labor protection clothing sewing lines in the 1980s, up to now, he has managed to develop the Company to national level, with 20 branches and over 18,000 employees. For many consecutive years, TNG has been in the top 100 sustainable development enterprises, the top units winning the Vietnam Digital Transformation Award... Every year, TNG's revenue and profit increase by an average of over 25%.

Over the past years, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of An Khanh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company, has led the Company and its member companies and associated companies to invest in the construction of An Khanh Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 120MW; implementing large mineral projects, projects of financial and commercial center buildings, with a total investment capital in Thai Nguyen province of over 20 trillion VND. This is the first private enterprise in the country to complete a large-capacity thermal power project, trusted by the Prime Minister and central ministries and branches, and continued to be assigned as the investor of the An Khanh Bac Giang Thermal Power Project with a capacity of 650MW, an investment capital of 24 trillion VND.

Known as the "iron woman", Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Thai Hung Trading Joint Stock Company, is always proactive in implementing research, building development strategies, production and business plans for the Company. Thai Hung is in the top 500 largest enterprises in Vietnam in 2024. According to the VNR500 rankings in 2024, Thai Hung has increased 14 places compared to 2023, ranking 79th. On the rankings of the largest private enterprises in Vietnam, in 2024, Thai Hung increased 3 places compared to 2023, ranking 36th. The consecutive increase in rankings for many consecutive years of Thai Hung continues to affirm its strong internal capacity, the correctness in strategic orientation and appropriate solutions in each stage of the Company's development, along with the solidarity and efforts of the staff, workers and employees in the Company...

Along with developing production and business, private enterprises in the province also strive to demonstrate their responsibility to society and the community.
