Building a sustainable forest development project in Muong Lat district

On the afternoon of July 29, comrade Le Duc Giang, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired a conference to listen to a report on the sustainable forest development project of Muong Lat district for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045.

Attending were representatives of relevant provincial departments, Thanh Hoa Agricultural Institute, Muong Lat District People's Committee.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Duc Thuan spoke at the conference.

At the conference, the representative of Thanh Hoa Agricultural Institute - the drafting unit presented a summary of the Project on sustainable forest development in Muong Lat district for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045. Based on the assessment of the current status of forestry development in Muong Lat district for the period 2010-2023 and related legal bases, the project stated the viewpoints, objectives, tasks and main solutions for implementation.

Accordingly, the goal of the Project for the 2024-2030 period is to maintain and stabilize the forest cover rate at 80-85%, equivalent to about 62,000-64,000 hectares of forested forestry land; strictly manage and protect over 56,800 hectares of natural forests, more than 6,138 hectares of existing protective forests; strictly manage and protect special-use forest areas; effectively carry out nature conservation and biodiversity conservation... In addition to the environmental protection goal, the project also sets out specific annual goals for socio-economic development for Muong Lat district when implementing the Project.

Regarding the vision to 2045, maintain a stable forest coverage rate, increase the value of forestry production in the total value of the district's agricultural sector; effectively promote the potential and advantages of land resources and forest resources, apply science and technology to forest development, create diverse products of economic value, gradually participate in the value supply chain; increasingly contribute to the socio-economic development of the district.

Contributing opinions at the conference, delegates commented and gave specific opinions on each topic, target and solutions suitable to the reality of Muong Lat district. In addition, it is recommended that the drafting unit should specifically show the targets on the area of ​​crop structure conversion; the area of ​​new forest planting; policies to support forest management and protection...

Based on the comments at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Giang requested the drafting unit to absorb and study the adjustment of the project to suit the reality of Muong Lat district, and report to the Provincial People's Committee as soon as possible.
