With the aim of building a safe, healthy, friendly and happy educational environment in the capital; encouraging creativity and innovation; improving the quality of teaching and learning, the Department of Education and Training has developed and issued a set of criteria for Happy Schools for preschools and general schools in the area.
A happy school is a place where every student is respected, listened to and feels loved by teachers and friends. To build a happy school, it is necessary to create a safe, friendly and positive environment. This includes reducing academic pressure, encouraging creativity and exploration, as well as developing social skills for students.
At Happy School, teachers are the leaders and inspirations for students. Teachers need to design interesting lessons so that students can acquire knowledge, skills, and express their thoughts and feelings.
For students, each day at school is not only a step in the learning journey, but also an opportunity to discover themselves and build beautiful memories with teachers and friends.
A survey by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training shows that schools are currently very active in responding to the construction of Happy Schools with many creative models and good solutions; building a green, clean, beautiful and safe environment; innovating teaching methods; fostering and developing skills and expertise for teachers and staff; creating many innovative and creative playgrounds for students...
“Hopefully, in addition to the criteria of a green, clean, beautiful and safe environment, educational institutions will organize well the implementation of democratic regulations, spread love, sharing and respect, so that every day at school is a happy day, teachers and students are happy. Let's work together to build happy classrooms, happy schools; together contribute to the successful construction of a Global Learning City recognized by UNESCO", Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said.
Sharing at the ceremony, Ms. Miki Nozawa, Head of Education of UNESCO Vietnam emphasized: The Happy School Movement launched by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training is in line with UNESCO's global framework on Happy Schools; promoting comprehensive, equitable and quality education for all, towards the United Nations' sustainable development goals on Education.
Representatives of 30 Departments of Education and Training and schools attending the launching ceremony promised to be determined to build a comprehensive learning environment, where students are safe, teachers are secure and parents are assured; at the same time, spreading the "3 words An" throughout society.
It is known that, together with schools, this school year, the Department of Education and Training will organize many activities and emulation movements to further promote the construction of happy schools. After the launching ceremony, districts, towns, and schools will also launch and widely implement the emulation movement to build happy schools.
The Happy Schools Movement started as a regional initiative in Asia in 2014. The regional Happy Schools framework later evolved into a global framework.
The Happy Schools Framework provides four pillars: people, teaching and learning, place (the learning environment) and overarching principles, and 12 criteria that can be adapted to national and local contexts. It builds on the growing evidence linking happiness to better learning, teaching, physical and mental wellbeing and the resilience of the whole education system.
