Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control participated in the discussion at the workshop.
At the workshop, delegates were updated by the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control together with VASEP and related units and enterprises, providing information on the current status of production, supply of seeds, feed, farming and export of tilapia. Current policies of the State in developing tilapia, solutions to develop production, farming and export of tilapia in the coming time. Assessment of market demand and potentials, opportunities for our country to develop tilapia exports and improve the industry value chain. The workshop also spent a lot of time for delegates to exchange, discuss and propose solutions to promote the development of production, consumption and export of tilapia products... Many delegates recommended that in the future, central and local authorities should pay attention to developing tilapia into a key aquatic product of Vietnam after brackish water shrimp and tra fish. Pay attention to developing production based on expanding product consumption markets, focusing on developing export markets as a driving force for development. Organize production in accordance with each region, ensuring harmony of interests between stages in the product value chain, in accordance with natural conditions, socio-economic conditions, and processing capacity of each locality. Encourage economic sectors to participate in research, development of production, processing and expansion of export markets. Promote the leading role of enterprises in building the tilapia value chain, thereby coordinating well with households to build and develop farming areas and closely link with seed and feed production activities... to organize production to ensure standards and quality to meet market requirements.
According to reports, discussions and comments of many experts and businesses at the workshop, our country has a lot of potential and favorable conditions to develop farming, processing and exporting tilapia, especially when the world market is strongly increasing demand for tilapia products. In the past, many localities have not paid due attention to investing and developing the tilapia product chain, so the output and export value of tilapia, although increasing, are still modest compared to the potential. According to VASEP, the export turnover of tilapia and red tilapia of our country in 2024 reached over 41 million USD, an increase of 137% over the previous year, of which tilapia exports reached over 27.8 million USD. In the first quarter of 2025, the export turnover of tilapia and red tilapia continued to increase strongly by more than 130% over the same period, reaching nearly 14 million USD.
