Participating in the national high school student selection exam for the 2024-2025 school year, the Hanoi student team has 260 students competing in 13 subjects: math, physics, chemistry, biology, information technology, literature, history, geography, English, Russian, French, Chinese, Japanese (20 students in each subject), an increase of 26 students compared to last year.
The highlight of the Hanoi student team competing in the national excellent student competition this year is the participation of students from 16 schools, including specialized high schools, non-specialized public high schools and private schools.
In the system of specialized high schools (schools with specialized classes), the leader is Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted (138 students); followed by Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School and Son Tay High School.
Among non-specialized public high schools, the school with the most students making it to the national team is Nguyen Gia Thieu High School (3 students); Kim Lien High School (2 students); the remaining schools: Ngo Quyen High School - Ba Vi, Tran Hung Dao High School - Ha Dong, Phan Huy Chu High School - Dong Da, Viet Duc High School, each school has 1 student becoming a member of the team.
Among private schools, Newton Secondary and High School has the most students in the team with 5 students (4 students in the math team, 1 student in the physics team), Japan International Primary, Secondary and High School (3 students), Doan Thi Diem High School, Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School, Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary and High School - Cau Giay, Hoang Long High School (each school has 1 student).
This year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has made many innovations in the organization of team selection. The whole city has more than 2,200 students participating in the team selection exam in 13 subjects; of which literature has the largest number of students registered with 320 students, English has 296 students. Each student can only take 1 subject. In addition, students who won prizes in the International Olympic competition in 2023, 2024 or students in the city's excellent student team participating in the national excellent student competition in the 2023-2024 school year can also register to take the exam.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong praised 260 students who became official members of the Hanoi student team participating in this year's national excellent student competition; at the same time, he affirmed that they are the crystallization of intelligence, morality and general education level of Hanoi students in this school year under the guidance of the most qualified and enthusiastic teachers of specialized high schools and high schools with specialized classes in the city.
According to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, the national excellent student selection exam for the 2024-2025 school year will take place on December 25 and 26, 2024. In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi has 234 students participating in the exam. With 184 students winning prizes (accounting for over 78.6%, 43 more than last year), Hanoi continues to be the leading locality in the country in terms of the number of prizes in the national excellent student exam.
In 184 prizes of Hanoi students, there were 14 first prizes, 61 second prizes, 54 third prizes and 55 consolation prizes. With 14 first prizes, English had 6 first prizes; chemistry had 2 first prizes; math, biology, informatics, history, geography, French - each subject had 1 first prize.
At the ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong especially commended two excellent 10th grade students who were registered for the official math team, Ha Manh Hung, grade 10 Math 1 (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted) and Ha Dang An, grade 10G0, Newton Secondary - High School; and also commended Newton School for having the most students in the national competition team among private, non-specialized schools.
