After the final round of matches on the evening of October 27, the 16 teams that qualified for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals were revealed. The 10 teams that qualified as group winners include: North Korea, Afghanistan, South Korea, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Australia, UAE, Yemen, Tajikistan, and Japan.
The five teams that will advance as the best runners-up are: China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Oman, and Iran.
The first team to advance is an unlikely name. North Korea is the one who achieved this impressive achievement. The East Asian team was in Group A with the host Jordan, Hong Kong (China), Syria and Iran. They won all 4 matches, earning a perfect 12 points to top the group. The top Asian team, Iran, was eliminated.
Thailand qualified with convincing results.
In the 2025 AFC U17 qualifiers, there are 3 groups of 5 teams, 6 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 3 teams. Because Lebanon withdrew from the tournament, Group H only has 3 teams, so when calculating the results for the 5 best runners-up, only the scores in the matches against the first and third-placed teams are taken into account. This leads to the teams calculating a lot in the decisive match.
In Group I, there were many concerns for U17 Vietnam before the final match began. However, with Myanmar unexpectedly coming from behind to beat Kyrgyzstan 2-1, U17 Vietnam took a big advantage with 3 points and a goal difference of +2 (minus the match result with the bottom team). Coach Roland and his team only needed a draw to be sure of advancing. In the end, U17 Vietnam drew 1-1 with Yemen.
In Southeast Asia, only 3 teams are qualified for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship, including Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. Of these, Thailand left a strong impression with 3 absolute victories when they were in the same group with Turkmenistan, Brunei and India. Indonesia won the first 2 matches and drew with Australia in the last round. With 4 points, they are one of the 5 best runners-up.
The 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals will take place in Saudi Arabia in February 2025.
