The 2025 AFC U-17 Championship will take place in Saudi Arabia from April 3 to 20. In this tournament, 16 teams are divided into 4 groups, playing a round robin to calculate points and rank. The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. At the same time, 8 teams participating in the quarterfinals of the 2025 AFC U-17 Championship will win tickets to the 2025 AFC U-17 World Cup, competing in Qatar in November. Accordingly, Vietnam U-17 is in a tough group B, with the presence of Japan U-17 (the defending champion), Australia U-17 and UAE U-17.
Although the door to the 2025 U.17 World Cup has opened much wider with Asia having 8 slots, this is still an extremely difficult task for the Vietnam U.17 team.
In the opening match taking place at 10pm on April 4 (Vietnam time), the U.17 Vietnam team will face a strong opponent, the U.17 Australia team. The young team from the land of kangaroos has reached the semi-finals of the U.17 Asian Cup 3 times. This is a very important match, as the young Vietnamese boys need to have a favorable result to create a premise for the rest of the tournament.
In the second match, the U.17 Vietnam team will face an even bigger challenge when they face the defending champion U.17 Japan at 10:00 p.m. on April 7 (Vietnam time). The final match of Group B will take place at 10:00 p.m. on April 10 (Vietnam time), when U.17 Vietnam will face U.17 UAE.
Up to now, the identity of the head coach of the Vietnam U.17 team has not been officially revealed. It is known that the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has finalized the candidate to coach the team, which is a Japanese coach with extensive experience in youth football. It is expected that this month, the team will complete a long-term training plan domestically and internationally (lasting about 2 weeks) to have the best physical strength and form.
