TPO - More than 2 months after storm No. 3, Tuy Loc vegetable farm, Tuy Loc commune, Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province is reviving, green covers the fields, people are gradually returning to their daily lives.
Located along the Red River, every year, the vegetable fields in Tuy Loc Commune, Yen Bai City are famous for their vast vegetable fields, providing green vegetables for the City and neighboring areas. The fields here are always covered in lush green of chayote, cabbage, kohlrabi, Malabar spinach, beans and many kinds of herbs... |
However, the floods caused by storm No. 3 last September submerged the lush green fields under murky floodwaters. After the water receded, the scene was devastated, with rice fields, corn fields, and vegetables buried in mud, and firewood strewn about. |
According to statistics, the whole commune has more than 1,240 households whose houses are flooded, accounting for about 90% of the total households in the commune. Some houses collapsed and were severely damaged. In addition, many agricultural production areas were completely damaged, including more than 40 hectares of rice, 75 hectares of vegetables, 10 hectares of fruit trees and nearly 12 hectares of fish ponds were flooded and silted up. |
Recovering from natural disasters, up to now, many agricultural land areas have been converted by people to grow winter crops. |
All over the fields, people are busy cleaning their fields, hoeing, sowing seeds, and planting vegetables. |
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, in Bai Duong village, Tuy Loc commune, lamented that for more than 2 months, she did not know where to start the repair work, her husband had to go to work to earn money to support the family. With such a huge amount of trees and trash, if they were to clean it up manually, it would take several months. |
The family and the villagers are determined to work together to restore the fields and gardens and resume production. Now, if we don't work, we don't know where to turn. Leaving the land there is a waste, Ms. Hien added. |
Like Ms. Hien, many households here, after stabilizing their lives, with the support of departments, local authorities and benefactors, have begun to go to the fields to improve the land, determined to revive the "vegetable barn" here. |
Speaking to Tien Phong , Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Chairman of Tuy Loc Commune People's Committee, said that the commune is actively implementing solutions to support people to overcome the consequences of storms and floods and restore production. However, many agricultural production areas are still in disarray and cannot be restored. |
According to Mr. Tuan, in addition to the sources of seed and material support from the state, organizations, businesses, and local authorities, the most important thing is the determination of the people. Up to this point, the whole commune has planted more than 60 hectares of winter vegetables. |
In addition, local authorities also coordinate with relevant agencies to train and guide people on clean agricultural practices and safe vegetable growing to ensure the health of producers and consumers. Focus on rehabilitating the soil after floods and fertilizing properly so that vegetables can grow healthily and limit damage caused by pests and diseases, Mr. Tuan added. |
