On June 18, the Office of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that a recent working session took place between VPSA, related businesses and representatives of Tan Cang Saigon Corporation (Tan Cang Saigon) regarding the incident of "shortage of pepper and coffee during export".

Accordingly, at the meeting, businesses shared information about situations of pepper and coffee loss during the export process to Egypt, Japan, Korea, etc. so that all parties could coordinate to verify and review the process.

Tan Cang Saigon said it is ready to coordinate with businesses to work with competent authorities and functional units to investigate and verify cases of goods shortages.

"The Association, businesses and Saigon Newport Corporation agree to support and coordinate to investigate the case to the end, on the one hand, to protect the reputation of Saigon Newport in particular and the Vietnamese maritime industry in general; at the same time, to protect the legitimate interests of export enterprises when they trust and use the port's services," VPSA informed.

Tan Cang Saigon said it will continue to receive more documents from businesses with the above problems and conduct reviews and investigations according to state and customs regulations, ensuring the rights of customers who are export businesses.

In a recent conversation with Tuoi Tre Online , a VPSA representative said that they had asked relevant parties to quickly investigate and resolve the incident, ensuring the rights of export businesses and maintaining customer confidence. In addition, businesses need the involvement of the police and authorities to quickly clarify the incident.

Previously, after receiving feedback from businesses about 5 shipments of coffee and pepper (exported from Cat Lai port) being "stolen", VPSA sent a document to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Saigon Newport Corporation to request support in inspection and resolution.

The company said that about 10.3 tons of coffee and 8.2 tons of pepper (worth about 2.7 billion VND) were "stolen". Based on the information they have, some companies believe that the goods were likely lost while the container was unloaded at Cat Lai port waiting to be exported.

Take measures to increase security and safety for import and export shipments.

Recently, according to information released by the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), import-export goods go through many stages and many units participate in processing, so there is currently no basis to confirm where or at what location the loss of exported pepper and coffee took place.

"The Department has contacted and requested relevant parties to share and provide more information to clarify the cause of the incident, and take measures to increase security and safety for import and export shipments," the agency emphasized.
