Vinfast prepares to break ground on electric vehicle manufacturing plant project in Tamil Nadu, India

Tamil Nadu, February 21, 2024 – VinFast Auto announced the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Integrated Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Facility Project in Thoothukudi City, Tamil Nadu State (India) on February 25, 2024. The event marks an important step forward in the strategic cooperation between VinFast and the Government of Tamil Nadu State, towards the common goal of promoting green transport development in India and the region.

The strategic cooperation between VinFast and the Tamil Nadu State Government was established by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 6, 2024. Accordingly, VinFast committed to invest 500 million USD in phase 1 of the electric vehicle manufacturing plant project, to be implemented over 5 years. This is an important milestone in VinFast's global expansion journey, marking the company's strong step into one of the world's leading potential electric vehicle markets.

The official groundbreaking of the electric vehicle manufacturing facility just over a month after the announcement of the signing of the MoU with the State Government affirms VinFast's strong determination and speed of implementation in its global expansion plan.

VinFast's Integrated Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Facility project in Tamil Nadu is expected to create approximately 3,000 to 3,500 jobs for the local labor market, demonstrating VinFast's commitment to contributing to the sustainable development of the community.

With a vision to become the leading electric vehicle manufacturing center in the region, the factory project has a capacity of up to 150,000 electric vehicles per year when officially put into operation. This production facility not only meets the development goals in the Indian market, but also serves the export goals to South Asian, Middle Eastern and African countries.

In addition, the project will make an important contribution to promoting green transport development in India, contributing to the realization of the Indian Government's target of 30% of newly registered private cars being electric vehicles. This is a strategic plan, contributing to reducing carbon emissions in the transport sector and protecting the environment.
