Within the framework of the 16th ASEAN Ministers of Information Meeting (AMRI 16) held in Da Nang City, on the afternoon of September 22, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung had a meeting with the head of the Singaporean Ministry of Communications and Information.

At the meeting, the two countries prioritized strengthening content management on radio, television and social networks, stepping up the handling of fake news and bad news, and building a healthy and safe cyberspace.

The 16th ASEAN Information Ministers Meeting is of great significance, demonstrating Vietnam's proactive and responsible role in multilateral diplomacy and affirming the significance of ASEAN cooperation.

This conference Vietnam chose the theme: "Communication: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Adaptive ASEAN".

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung received the head of the delegation from the Ministry of Communications and Information of Singapore.

This theme highlights the role and mission of the media sector in the new period, making information the driving force of development, not only providing information, but also promoting the transformation from information to knowledge, to build a self-reliant ASEAN, strengthen internal capacity, resilience and adaptability to affirm the role and position of ASEAN not only inward-looking, but also ready to respond to fluctuations in the current world situation.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam shared that at this conference, host Vietnam brought very specific initiatives and messages.

According to the Deputy Minister, Vietnam's first proposal is related to the issue of awareness education, especially digital awareness for citizens. The second is the need to have methods to force cross-border media platforms to fully comply with the laws of countries, national and regional codes of conduct related to sensitive issues such as culture, identity, etc.

The issue of responsibility of cross-border social networking platforms as well as the ethical issue of technology applied in communication was raised by Vietnam to propose to the ministers and was approved to be included in the conference's joint statement.

The third initiative that Vietnam brought to the conference, which is also an issue that we are working on domestically, is to protect citizens not only against fake news, but also to make official information (state media) appear on digital platforms so that people can easily access it.
