Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said that Vietnam will reduce the age of receiving social benefits from 80 to 75 years old, and then to 60 years old so that all elderly people can benefit from the policy.
This is the goal stated by Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung when receiving Mr. Matthew David Jackson, new Chief Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam on September 26.

At the meeting, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung highly appreciated UNFPA's support and coordination with Vietnam in research projects and expanding social protection policies for vulnerable groups, including the poor and the elderly.
According to the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam always cares about and supports vulnerable groups with many practical policies. Specifically, during the Covid-19 period, Vietnam has allocated 120,000 billion VND to directly support more than 68 million people and 1.4 million employers facing difficulties. The support is mainly for workers in industrial parks, export processing zones, women giving birth, orphans, etc.

According to the Minister, in the near future, Vietnam will gradually reduce the age at which the elderly can enjoy social policies, from 80 years old to 75 years old, moving towards the age of 60 so that people past working age can have social protection.
Another direction is to transfer all social security to the pension insurance level so that when they get old, the elderly will have a pension.
"Over the past 10 years, Vietnam has mainly focused on social security issues, paying special attention to disadvantaged groups. Vietnam will strive to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030. At that time, Vietnam's vision for developing social policies and social welfare will be different, more comprehensive, inclusive, modern and sustainable.
At that time, Vietnam will not only stop at taking care of the disadvantaged but the whole society will benefit from the results of this policy," Minister Dao Ngoc Dung emphasized.

The Commander of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs believes that with many years of experience and professional capacity, Mr. Matthew David Jackson will make positive contributions to promoting cooperation between UNFPA and Vietnam, especially in the fields of labor, employment and social security.
