Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, Chairman of VINASA, believes that digital economy, green economy, and new technology are the answers to the problem of finding new driving forces for urban development today - Photo: MINH SON

"According to statistics, by December 2023, the country had 902 urban areas with an urbanization rate of about 42.7%. The urbanization rate is on par with Asia. The urban economy contributes about 70% of the country's GDP. With that urbanization rate, the problem is how to find new development drivers in the context of a world that is constantly changing in politics, economics, technology, etc. I think that digital economy, green economy and new technology can be the answer" - Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, Chairman of VINASA, emphasized. According to experts, smart cities are one of the main development trends of urban areas in the world as well as in the region. As one of the countries leading that trend, Vietnam is having many positive changes in both policy, investment environment and research, implementation and practical application in provinces and cities. According to statistics, up to now, 48/63 provinces and cities in Vietnam have implemented smart city projects. A big problem for urban areas in Vietnam is how to find new development drivers in the constant fluctuations of the economy, society and technology... According to experts, only digital economy - green economy and technology can be the answer. In which, digital economy requires promoting digital transformation of traditional economic sectors; green economy is sustainable development towards the environment and culture. And the new technology factor comes from industries that Vietnam is gaining great attraction such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), automotive... At the conference, Hanoi city leaders shared the project "Building a smart Hanoi city by 2025, with a vision to 2030". In which, the three key areas of the city are: Urban transport; Preserving and developing heritage, culture, tourism; Protecting water and air environment. To effectively implement the project, Hanoi has also issued the Hanoi City Data Strategy to 2030. According to the plan, on December 6, Hanoi will open a Data Center at Hoa Lac High-Tech Park with a public-private partnership approach, using cloud computing services to both increase efficiency and optimize investment costs. This is the first data center of a city in the country to apply this model.
