In 2024, the Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-District Forest Protection Department coordinated with localities and functional agencies to deploy many inspections, sweeps, and prevention of deforestation, exploitation, purchase, sale, and transportation of forest products and illegal wildlife. Specifically, the unit organized 135 patrols, inspections, and sweeps to protect forests (an increase of 18.4% compared to 2023); discovered and destroyed 2 camps, 282 iron traps, 21 iron traps, 376 bicycle brake wire traps, 8 wooden stake traps, etc. At the same time, it coordinated with the interdisciplinary team to conduct 119 patrols, reminding 2,169 tourists to ensure forest fire prevention, not to illegally encroach on forests, and not to feed monkeys or litter.
Mr. Ngo Truong Chinh, Head of the Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-District Forest Protection Department, said that the synchronous implementation of tasks and plans has brought about significant results, minimizing deforestation, exploitation, transportation, trading of forest products, and illegal hunting of wild animals in the management area. The unit focuses on coordinating, inspecting, supervising, and urging the patrolling and forest protection activities of households contracted under the forest environmental service payment project; organizing mobile propaganda campaigns on legal regulations on wildlife protection, forest fire prevention and fighting on roads in residential areas and on the Son Tra peninsula.
For forest fire prevention and fighting, the unit inspects and delimits key areas at risk of forest fires to arrange forces to be on duty, patrol, regularly inspect and monitor forest fire prevention; assigns duty and patrols even at night to monitor during peak hot days, holidays and days off.
In Hoa Vang district, there are currently more than 58,000 hectares of forest and forestry land, of which more than 17,000 hectares are planted forests, with forest coverage reaching 69.46%. Before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025, the Ba Na - Nui Chua Special-Use Forest Management Board will inspect, sweep and prevent illegal logging, trading and transporting of forest products and wild animals in special-use forests.
Specifically, the unit focuses on key areas with high risk of impact such as the area bordering Hue city (sub-areas 1, 2, 5, 12, 20), the area bordering Quang Nam province (sub-areas 31, 33, 37, 39, 43, 46, 54), La Son - Tuy Loan route; sub-areas 29, 39; risks of illegal encroachment of forest land in sub-areas 52, 53, 54. With 6 working groups, inspection and raid teams of the Ba Na - Nui Chua Special-Use Forest Management Board proactively deployed forces to ensure synchronization, secrecy, surprise and efficiency. In the coming time, the Ba Na - Nui Chua Special-Use Forest Management Board will continue to organize patrols, inspections and raids throughout the managed forest area to maintain the Ba Na - Nui Chua Nature Reserve forest area from being impacted.
According to statistics, the current forest status of the whole city is 43,061 hectares of natural forest, 19,670 hectares of planted forest; forest coverage rate reached 44.77%. In 2024, the City Forest Protection Department coordinated with functional forces and localities to carry out 738 forest inspections and sweeps; 79 forest product inspections and controls. Through inspections, many camps, iron traps, iron traps, etc. were discovered, dismantled and destroyed.
On the other hand, the sub-department developed and signed a coordination regulation in forestry work in the border area between the Da Nang City Forest Protection Sub-department and the Hue City Forest Protection Sub-department, helping to create favorable conditions for affiliated units to have a basis to develop plans and advise local authorities at all levels in the border area to develop specific coordination plans to organize implementation in accordance with the reality of each locality.
In forest fire prevention and fighting, the Department directs its subordinate units to coordinate early with units and People's Committees of communes and wards with forests to review the current status, divide key areas prone to forest fires and the local situation to update and supplement forest protection plans and forest fire prevention and fighting at all levels to ensure timely prevention and handling of arising situations, minimizing damage caused by forest fires and deforestation.
The subordinate units also advised the People's Committees of communes and wards to establish 19 shock teams; 79 mass groups to protect forests in villages and residential areas near forests and forest edges with 1,386 participants; guided 26 units stationed in the area and 824 households, forest owners, and those operating in forests and forest edges to sign a commitment to comply with regulations on forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting.
Mr. Quach Huu Son, Deputy Head of the City Forest Protection Department, said that forest protection management work has been closely coordinated by localities, forest rangers and forest protection forces of forest owners, closely following reality, regularly and promptly updating developments in forest protection in the city.
In the coming time, the City Forest Protection Department will continue to synchronously deploy tasks and solutions to protect and sustainably develop the entire existing forest area and planted forest area in the period of 2021-2025; contributing to maintaining a stable forest cover rate of about 45-47%. In addition, it will continue to improve forest productivity and quality, protect and preserve the environment, conserve biodiversity, minimize negative impacts caused by natural disasters, and enhance the ability to adapt to climate change in the city.
