The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board confirmed that it has asked foreign contractors and construction contractors to evaluate and find solutions.
As of this morning (February 21), mud continues to push and spray up from underground through some small holes and drains in alley 7, Giang Van Minh street, even though yesterday, relevant units mobilized workers and sludge suction trucks to handle the incident and cover the holes and spray mouths.
The investor requested the contractor to fix the tunnel problem.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Deputy Head of MRB, on behalf of the investor, the consulting team and contractors, apologized for the inconveniences during the construction process and hoped to receive sympathy and cooperation from the people in the area where the Project passes.
According to Mr. Son, the Project always puts safety first, has been strictly implementing safety measures during construction, complying with the Project's technical standards and current legal regulations.
MRB has directed Systra Consultant and the Hyundai – Ghella Joint Venture to continue to survey, evaluate the causes and propose solutions to minimize the occurrence of similar situations as well as the impact on the people.
Notably, the Deputy Head of MRB affirmed: "The above phenomenon does not affect the structure of the project nor cause any human damage. TBM1 has so far excavated 1.2km and is still continuing construction at an average speed of 10-12m/day".
"During the drilling process, the tunneling additive is sprayed under pressure to stabilize the soil in front of the excavation face. When encountering a hole, the tunneling additive combined with water and fine materials in the soil will flow up to the ground surface through these holes. This phenomenon only occurs for a short time and ends immediately after the TBM drills through and installs the tunnel lining. This is a common phenomenon during the construction of urban tunneling projects using TBMs using earth pressure balance (EPB) technology," said Mr. Son.
The phenomenon of mud overflowing onto the road surface makes people worried.
Previously, on the evening of February 20, during the construction process of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro tunnel, a phenomenon of tunneling additives being sprayed onto the ground surface occurred.
According to Mr. Sergei Papin - Chief Tunnel Engineer of Systra Consulting (France), "The material sprayed onto the ground is a mixture of mud, water and tunneling additives. The tunneling additives are completely harmless, environmentally friendly, meet European standards and have undergone strict inspection and approval of the Project.
In fact, there is still incomplete information because the owners have changed and the houses have been rebuilt many times. However, we confirm that the houses on the tunnel route are continuously monitored and are all within the safety threshold. This phenomenon may continue to occur, but we have developed a Response Plan in advance and are making efforts to speed up the handling process to ensure environmental sanitation and people's lives."
