In recent days, An Luong fishing port, Duy Hai commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province, has been filled with a bustling atmosphere of seafood trading. In particular, the "sea bounty" that fishermen exploit from fishing grounds and bring back to the port is mainly anchovies.
According to VTC News reporters, from early morning on February 18, dozens of small-capacity boats lined up to dock at An Luong port. Here, many workers hired to unload seafood were on standby, just waiting for the boat to dock to start transporting fish ashore.
According to fishermen, for nearly a week now, anchovies have been appearing densely in the waters of Cu Lao Cham Island - about 12 nautical miles from shore. Thanks to that, after a night of sailing out to sea, every boat returns to shore with its hold full of anchovies.
When the last baskets of fish from the QNg 1892 TS ship were moved ashore, local people and traders at the market located next to An Luong port could not help but admire the output of this ship.
Mr. Tran Thai - owner of the QNg 1892 TS boat - said that after a night of hard work casting nets in the Cu Lao Cham fishing grounds, he and his 9 crew members caught 10 tons of anchovies. With the fish sold at the port at 10,000 VND/kg, his boat earned 100 million VND. After deducting fuel and other expenses, he and his crew "pocketed" no less than 90 million VND.
Although not achieving a "huge" yield like Mr. Thai's boat, the 9 fishermen working on the QNa 94175 TS boat (270 CV capacity) were still very excited because after just one night of fishing, they also brought back 5 tons of anchovies.
After joining hands with his fellow crew members to scoop up the last batches of fish from the hold and put them on trays, Mr. Dang Huu Dat (residing in Binh Minh commune, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam; fisherman working on the QNa 94175 TS boat) shared that at around 4:00 p.m. on February 17, the boat departed from An Luong fishing port and headed straight to the area of Cu Lao Cham island. "After a sleepless night of casting nets, at around 4:00 a.m. on February 18, the captain steered the boat back to the mainland. I was really happy, because thanks to the calm seas in the past 4-5 days, plus the abundance of anchovies, the boat's fishing was very effective," Mr. Dat happily said.
According to Mr. Dat, with a yield of 5 tons of anchovies sold right at the port, each crew member will "pocket" approximately 4 million VND - a remuneration that brings immense joy to fishermen who specialize in fishing close to shore like Mr. Dat.
Not only fishermen, the joy of catching a big catch of anchovies in the first fishing trips of the new year is also evident on the faces of the women in the porter team at An Luong port.
"After Tet, I quit my job as a restaurant server in Hoi An to form a group with nine other women in the neighborhood to transport seafood from the wharf to trucks for traders. These days, there are a lot of anchovies coming in, so we have to unload from early morning until noon. For every ton of fish, traders pay our group 100,000 VND. On average, each person earns 300,000 VND in a day," said a female porter hired at An Luong port.
