It's a pity that all the trees were cut down.
Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, a bus driver who travels daily on the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh highway, said that every time he passes this route, the rows of green trees on both sides of the road always create a pleasant feeling and safe driving.
“Roadside trees provide shade and help reduce glare from sunlight or street lights, creating a safer driving environment. However, I don’t understand why such beautiful trees that have existed for so many years are now being mercilessly cut down,” Mr. Minh wondered.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Len, who regularly travels this highway, said that roadside trees help reduce emissions and improve air quality.
Not only that, trees also help reduce noise significantly, creating a quieter environment for nearby residential areas. But I don't understand why they are cut down?
"It is really regrettable that the investor of Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway cut down trees on both sides of the road," Mr. Len regretted.
VietNamNet reporters noted that on many sections of the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway, trees have been cut down and left bare. The dry, withered branches lying under the road embankment are being cleared by the investor.
Tree cutting to fix violations, widen 6-lane road
Talking to VietNamNet reporters about the above concerns, a representative of Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) - the investor of the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway project, gave explanations.
Accordingly, the expressway was put into operation at the end of 2011. In order to create an environmental landscape, reduce noise, help drivers drive safely and prevent people from climbing fences and grazing cattle, VEC launched a tree planting campaign along the route.
However, the cost of planting trees is relatively large, so the tree planting movement faces many difficulties. Therefore, the exploitation management unit has socialized and invited specialized units to participate in the implementation.
In June 2015, VEC O&M cooperated with D&G Vietnam Co., Ltd. to plant trees in the empty corridor on both sides of the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway. The initial number of trees planted was about 180,000, but to date about 100,000 trees are still alive.
During the tree planting process, D&G Vietnam Company Limited violated the regulations by planting some trees on the negative slope that were not in accordance with the regulations of the technical standards for regular road maintenance. Therefore, the authorities have inspected, evaluated and requested the removal of the above-mentioned violating trees.
VEC has directed VEC O&M and its partners to cut down unsuitable trees since 2017. After many instructions, in early April, D&G Vietnam Company Limited notified VEC O&M to cut down acacia trees on both sides of Cau Gie - Ninh Binh highway, starting from April 5.
VEC representative informed that cutting down acacia trees along both sides of the highway is mandatory to overcome the existing problems as required by the competent authority. In addition, according to the plan, in 2024, VEC will invest in expanding Cau Gie - Ninh Binh highway from Dai Xuyen intersection to Liem Tuyen from 4 lanes to 6 lanes.
Therefore, cutting down trees along the highway is necessary to prepare the construction site for phase 2 of the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh highway project.
