Several motorists along the remote highway of Highway 19 in Olmsted County between Stewartville and Chatfield, Minnesota, USA saw a strange object. It was a disc-shaped UFO, gray-white in color.

Right in the center is a metal hat-shaped object, with a green clown face.

The object has no labels, markings or information indicating who owns it, when it existed or where it actually came from.

Chatfield Alliance members said they were unaware of the object until the latest images were made public. “Now I really want to drive by it,” said Sara Sturgis, coordinator of the Chatfield Alliance.

A witness who regularly drives through the area said she had seen the strange object there for years.

“I have seen this object twice, when visiting friends in rural Chatfield. It has been there for a long time,” said Jessica Anderson, of Rochester.

She recalls driving past the object, commenting on it with friends, while in high school in 1994. That would make the structure 29 years old.

At the time, Anderson thought someone had stolen the object from an artist and left it on the side of the road. But given its current appearance, she suspects the local landscaper, or the artist, may have repainted it. Its true origins, however, remain a mystery.

In a recent interview, employees at the Rochester auto repair business revealed some clues about the object.

He declined to elaborate, saying he did not want to risk damaging his business. He said he was familiar with the work and confirmed that it had been recently reworked.

In response to some speculation about whether the clown’s head and face were made from an old motorbike gas tank, he said: “I believe so. But I won’t say anything more.”
