The Dutch star has 18 months left on his contract with Liverpool. After the German coach's shocking announcement, Van Dijk is also wondering about his own future.
Asked if he would be part of the next era at Anfield, when Klopp leaves the club, Van Dijk replied:
"That's the big question. I don't know. Liverpool have a huge job ahead to replace not just the manager but the entire staff, the coaching staff. There will be a lot of changes.
I'm curious to see how things go. When that's announced, we'll see how we're doing. But for now, I can't say much more.
It's clearly the end of the Jurgen Klopp era. I'm glad to still be a part of it.
Hopefully Liverpool can achieve the success we want at the end of the season. At that point, there will be more information about what the club wants for the future. Then we will consider making a decision."
In addition to coach Jurgen Klopp, several other key figures are also preparing to leave Anfield, including sporting director Jorg Schmadtke and assistants Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz and Vitor Matos.
Van Dijk added: "Of course, things will change at the end of the season but not yet so we have to continue to play together.
It's easier said than done but I feel like the rest of the players think the same. It's my job to make sure everything is stable and on track."
