High-tech applications to adapt to climate change

In recent times, climate change has severely affected agricultural production. Climate change is forecasted to occur more rapidly, complexly, and unpredictably. Therefore, developing high-tech agriculture (CNC), investing in machinery and equipment in production to contribute to improving production and better adapting to climate change is especially important.

In recent years, Dong Nai farmers have increasingly focused on applying CNC in agricultural production to help save water resources and production costs.

Many new farming solutions

Climate change is the cause of many areas gradually becoming dry and desertified; the change of dry and rainy seasons is more unpredictable for farmers in cultivation. Accordingly, farmers in the province have invested large capital to bring technology to the fields to serve production.

Head of the Chinh Duc Durian Cooperative (in Song Ray Commune, Cam My District) Tran Van Duc shared that the cooperative is a pioneer in the locality to invest in drones for spraying pesticides and fertilizing plants. In addition to serving its members, the cooperative also provides spraying and fertilizing services for local gardeners, contributing to the effective application of CNC in production. Compared to traditional methods, using drones helps save on fertilizers, pesticides and labor. In particular, this solution ensures timeliness in treating pests and diseases on crops, helping to prevent diseases effectively.

Up to now, the whole province has 149 hectares of crop area applying greenhouse and net house technology; initially applying Internet of Things (IoT) technology, monitoring and controlling microclimate parameters for crop cultivation such as: temperature, relative humidity of air, light, nutrition remotely by smartphone or computer.

Nowadays, traditional agricultural cultivation based on soil is increasingly facing many challenges. Applying CNC to production, farmers have more farming solutions such as: growing plants on substrates, hydroponics...

Mr. Vo Van Tam, a farmer in An Phuoc commune (Long Thanh district) is a pioneer in the locality in investing in thousands of square meters of greenhouses to grow melons. He applies many new techniques and technologies to production, from new varieties, growing plants on substrates to investing in water filtration systems with smart water-saving irrigation solutions... Mr. Tam compares that growing plants on substrates in greenhouses brings many benefits such as: plants germinate evenly, reduce the risk of pests and diseases, accurately control the amount of water and nutrients, help save investment costs, and plants give the highest yield.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vinh Tam Agricultural Trade and Service Cooperative (in Vinh Tan Commune, Vinh Cuu District) Dang Van Phi said that there are currently many solutions for urban agriculture with small areas but bringing very high economic efficiency. The cooperative invests in greenhouses for growing hydroponic vegetables, all production stages are automated to help farmers measure and control, optimizing almost all factors affecting the growth of crops such as: temperature, humidity, light, nutrition. At the same time, the hydroponic system helps increase crops by shortening cultivation time, increasing crop yield, and saving labor. Hydroponic vegetable products are being sold to safe food stores at higher prices than the general market level.

Bringing technology to the field

In recent times, Dong Nai's agricultural sector has focused on supporting enterprises and farmers to apply CNC in production. Up to now, the whole province has nearly 60 thousand hectares of crops applying water-saving irrigation systems, an increase of thousands of hectares compared to the same period last year. The CNC agricultural model has also been replicated in the province. Up to now, the whole province has 419 CNC agricultural models, 8 agricultural production areas applying CNC. The whole province has also attracted 328 enterprises applying CNC in agricultural production.

Enterprises and farmers in Dong Nai have many advantages to take the lead in applying CNC in agricultural production. Viet Farm Company Limited in Xuan Truong Commune (Xuan Loc District) is a pioneer enterprise in the province to apply CNC in production when investing in dozens of hectares of greenhouses to grow melons and many other vegetables and fruits. The farm invests in clean seeds, clean soil, clean water and clean environment. Plants are grown on sand substrates and organic microbial fertilizers. Impressively, this enterprise does not "copy" technology from abroad, but has many improvements, even self-manufacturing equipment and machinery in greenhouses such as: self-designing robots programmed to automatically water plants; applying solar energy to operate the cooling system in greenhouses to have the cheapest production costs...

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam, Vietnam's agricultural sector is strongly transforming to an agricultural economic model, applying CNC to increase value and sustainable development. Recently, the 2025 Agricultural Technology Exhibition was held in Ho Chi Minh City to connect manufacturers, distributors with farmers, promote mechanization and sustainable agricultural development. Thereby, helping businesses and farmers raise awareness of the importance of CNC application in production to increase productivity, increase value; promote sustainable agricultural development.
