The UAE's Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal has convicted 53 individuals and six companies on terrorism charges, the WAM news agency reported.
According to WAM, 43 of the defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment for establishing and managing a terrorist organization called the “Justice and Dignity Committee” to carry out terrorist acts in the UAE. Meanwhile, five other defendants were sentenced to 15 years in prison each for collaborating with the “Call for Reform” organization, supporting the organization in articles and statements posted on social media platforms with the aim of opposing the UAE.
The remaining defendants were each sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined a total of AED 10 million (more than USD 2.7 million) for “laundering proceeds of crimes such as establishing and financing a terrorist organization”.
All of the above defendants are leaders and members of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) organization.
