On the morning of March 22, U17 Vietnam officially departed from Hanoi to Oman for training.
Here, the team is expected to have two friendly matches with the host country's U17 team on March 25 and 28 before participating in the 2025 AFC U17 Finals, taking place in Saudi Arabia from April 3 to 20.
The team has 26 players and has undergone two screening rounds during training in Hanoi since early March.
The faces that will not continue to be with the team include: goalkeeper Ly Xuan Hoa (PVF), Chu Ba Huan (Hanoi), defender Tran Hoang Viet (Hanoi), Nguyen Van Phuc (Hong Linh Ha Tinh), Pham Minh Quan (Ba Ria Vung Tau), midfielder Thomas Mai Veeren (HV Quick), Bui Tuan Anh (Hanoi) and striker Dau Quang Hung (Ba Ria Vung Tau).
Sharing before the training trip in Oman, head coach Cristiano Roland said:
"Vietnam U17 has new players in addition to the squad that competed in the U17 Asian qualifiers. The two matches in Oman will be an opportunity to prepare best for the 2025 U17 Asian Cup.
The players are gradually getting a clearer grasp of the gameplay, how to deploy the ball, and coordinate with each other.
We still have a lot to do and will try to improve through each match. The most important thing is that I see confidence in each player. They have a good attitude and are on the right track in preparing for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship."
At the 2025 AFC U17 Championship, coach Cristiano Roland and his team are scheduled to play against U17 Australia (10pm, April 4), U17 Japan (10pm, April 7) and U17 UAE (10pm, April 10). If they win one of the top two positions in the group, U17 Vietnam will have a ticket to the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup.
