U.17 Vietnam confidently aims for Asian tournament

According to coach Hoang Anh Tuan, preparations for the Asian tournament have been completed. U.17 Vietnam will depart for Thailand with 24 players. Among them is 1 reserve player and the official list will be finalized before the match day with 23 names.

"There are some players who are injured and cannot participate in this tournament. However, those injured players are not in the official squad so the team still has the most stable force," said Mr. Tuan.

To prepare for the AFC U17 Championship, Vietnam U17 has had a thorough preparation process by gathering for more than 1 month, undergoing training (both domestically and internationally) and playing many friendly matches. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan shared: "For a specific tournament, going to training and playing 6-7 friendly matches like that is enough. Mainly, the players have competed and gained experience. Of course, with more than 1 month of preparation, Vietnam U17 has had very positive results and we are still confident in playing."

According to the head coach of U.17 Vietnam, youth football is not very stable. Therefore, preparation will be the key factor in deciding the success or failure of a youth team like U.17. "In youth teams, today we play like this but tomorrow we play differently. This will depend on the time and is not stable. U.17 is an age group that has not fully matured mentally and physically. Professional and mental preparation for the players is very important. The assessments of strong or weak teams are only theoretical, but in actual competition it is completely different," said Mr. Tuan.

Regarding the difficult group that U.17 Vietnam is in, the coach from Khanh Hoa commented: "For me, every opponent in the group is strong, but they are also wary of us. In the qualifying round, U.17 Vietnam was one of the teams that did not concede any goals and topped the group. When we met Thailand, we still won 3-0. Youth football is not arithmetic. Therefore, U.17 Vietnam will concentrate highly and solve each match. It will be the same regardless of which team we meet first, because sooner or later we will have to play."

At the 2023 AFC U-17 Championship, Vietnam U-17 is in Group D, and will meet India U-17 (June 17), Japan U-17 (June 20) and Uzbekistan U-17 (June 23). Accordingly, the 4 groups will play a round-robin to calculate the ranking points. The first and second teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
