On November 22, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province said that it had just sent a document to the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Railway Authority, proposing to consider and direct relevant units to soon implement the investment and upgrade of the infrastructure of the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line. This is to ensure train safety, attract tourists to Da Lat city in particular and Lam Dong province in general, and at the same time create conditions for Lam Dong province to successfully implement the goals of Resolution No. 04-NQ/TU (dated November 12, 2021) of the Standing Committee of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee (term X1) on the development of Da Lat city in the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030 and a vision to 2045.

Da Lat Railway Station National Monument

The Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line was built during the French period and restored in 1991 (including 6.7 km of main road; 0.81 km of station road; 9 turnouts and 380 m of culverts) as part of the Thap Cham - Da Lat railway line restoration project.

However, through inspection by functional units, the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway is currently seriously degraded, some locations are flooded, landslides, wastewater, garbage make traffic unsafe as well as greatly affect tourists and local people.

A section of the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway passes through a residential area.

Specifically, the route has many continuous curves, all curves have no guard rails; the route passes through high mountainous areas, with relatively large longitudinal slopes, especially the slope in front of Trai Mat station (Da Lat - Trai Mat direction).

The current railway bed is an average of 5m wide, with many locations where the bed is dug deep and raised. Along the railway corridor are mainly hills and mountains. Every time there is heavy rain, water from the hillsides flows down to the railway bed, bringing with it soil and rocks, causing the railway to be flooded from 20cm to 50cm, greatly affecting train operations.

Trai Mat Station

The rails are mainly P26 rails, L = 12m on concrete sleepers mixed with French iron sleepers that have been worn and damaged a lot, the average sleeper density is 16 bars/rail bridge L = 12m; the turnouts are worn beyond the standard, there are no replacement parts. There are no bridges on the entire route but only 19 culverts for drainage; currently on both sides of the route, some sections have longitudinal drainage systems and some locations have transverse drainage systems, but most of them have been buried by rocks and soil, so the route is often flooded locally.

On the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line, there are still ancient architectural works, especially Da Lat station, the oldest station in Indochina (recognized as a national cultural architectural relic in 2001); in addition, related station buildings such as warehouses, locomotive and wagon storage, and locomotive repair and examination tunnels have also degraded.
