Twice Soldier Newspaper…

Entering the traditional room and the archive room of the People's Army Newspaper, one is impressed by the documents, artifacts and images of the newspaper's history of birth and development. The highlight is a solemn painting of President Ho Chi Minh's directive: " Speak only practical things, in line with political guidelines, less jokes, write short and simple, draw easy to understand, present clearly, and do not go to another page".

Uncle Ho's advice has become a guiding principle not only for those who work for the Army Newspaper but also for all those who work for revolutionary newspapers. Those are words that are engraved in our hearts and still hold true today. And that picture also cleverly brings us back to the "origin" of the People's Army Newspaper, remembering the story told by comrade Nguyen Chi Thanh: " I asked Uncle Ho for his opinion. He said our army is the people's army. The army's newspaper is called the People's Army. It's that simple! " (The book 40 years of a journey published by the People's Army Newspaper in 1990 recorded).

On October 20, 1950, after nearly 3 months of preparation, the People's Army Newspaper published its first issue in Khau Dieu village, Dinh Bien commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province. On the front page of this first issue, that meaningful directive was solemnly published.

From heroic tradition to development of colorful image 1

Reporters of the People's Army newspaper are always dedicated and proactive on all fronts.

Proud of its tradition, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper Le Ngoc Long shared that the People's Army Newspaper has the honor of being a newspaper that is twice a soldier. Because the newspaper has two roles and two functions: being a soldier of the Vietnam People's Army and a soldier on the cultural and ideological front.

With that responsibility, the People's Army journalists in any period of the country, during war, both holding pens and guns, directly "competing with the enemy", in peacetime are also a dedicated, shock force of journalists.

There are many examples of journalists-soldiers who have become heroes. Throughout the history of the newspaper, there are 8 martyrs fighting against the French, 1 martyr fighting against the Americans and 2 heroes of the People's Armed Forces. They are monuments of the past that live forever in the hearts of today's generations of journalists.

And the famous saying of journalist Le Dinh Du: "A soldier can stand and shoot, kneel and shoot, lie down and shoot, but a reporter only has the right to stand upright in the trenches, using weapons such as cameras and fountain pens to record the exploits of his comrades and the crimes of the enemy" is still like a call echoing from tradition, with the power to stir the hearts, urging cadres and soldiers to be determined to destroy the enemy, determined to complete the mission in any circumstances.

It is important to nurture and promote identity…

It can be said that there are many ways to fuel tradition, encourage and motivate the young generation through professional seminars and workshops organized by the Newspaper or assigned to the Journalists Association... All of these activities must aim to preserve the core values of the People's Army journalists, which is the spirit of dedication, serving the people, and aiming at the original mission of the newspaper. And most importantly, it must be the inheritance and promotion of the newspaper's mission and identity in the new context.

Journalist Le Ngoc Long also shared: “ The precious quality of a soldier is that he is willing to take on difficult tasks, is always present in remote areas, the most dangerous areas, and is also ready to sacrifice when the Fatherland needs him... That has become a value that is passed down to this day...”.

The value of the transmission is not only stories but has become practical actions, imbued with the work of wartime and peacetime. The story of the "headquarters" 70 years ago, during the 56 days and nights of the Dien Bien Phu campaign, the People's Army Newspaper produced and published right at the front... is a valuable lesson for this year, on the occasion of the propaganda to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the People's Army Newspaper (QĐND) has deployed its mission with a large force, in addition to the number of permanent reporters in the Northwest, the Editorial Board of the People's Army Newspaper has organized 5 elite reporter groups, ensuring full, vivid, and comprehensive reflection of the contents and events; at the same time promoting the advantage of being a multimedia press agency...

“The organization of the frontline editorial office at the Dien Bien Phu Front, together with the main editorial office in Khau Dieu village, Dinh Bien commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province, was not only a unique feature in the organization of journalism of the People's Army Newspaper during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, but also left many valuable lessons for generations of cadres and reporters of the People's Army Newspaper. That is the spirit of dedication in journalism; creativity and flexibility in organizing journalism; the value of information from staying close to the grassroots, writing and living with the grassroots; mobilizing the strength of forces participating in journalism...

With the spirit of Dien Bien and the spirit of journalism in Dien Bien 70 years ago, in organizing the current propaganda tasks, the People's Army Newspaper always consistently implements the policy: Proactive, creative, flexible, sensitive for the interests of the nation and people; for the People. Obviously, that proud tradition has been and is "lighting the fire" for the journalists - soldiers of the People's Army Newspaper today" - Journalist Le Ngoc Long affirmed.

Lighting up the fire for journalists,… is to promote the spirit of soldier journalists in their activities. The Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People’s Army Newspaper is proud that, in the face of the huge challenges of the market economy, along with the fierce competition for information between the mainstream press and social networks, the People’s Army journalists always maintain the qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, without any violations of professional ethics, violations of journalistic cultural criteria…

Generations of cadres and reporters of the People's Army Newspaper today always strive to complete their tasks well and excellently; the content of the news articles ensures the correct purpose and principles, promptly and fully reflects the Party and State's guidelines, policies and guidelines to the soldiers and people, and at the same time responds to the opinions, reflects the thoughts and aspirations of the people to the Party and State. The People's Army Newspaper truly becomes a bridge between the Party and the people.

Pride in tradition is an element that needs to be preserved and nurtured, but we also need to affirm our position in the new era. A comrade said: If we continue to live on the glory of the past, we will slide into the present…” - Colonel Le Ngoc Long further affirmed.

He also shared that, before the new journey, how can the glorious tradition always be preserved in the newspaper that has been awarded the Gold Star Order, the Ho Chi Minh Order, twice received the title of Heroic Unit and many other noble awards by the Party and the State? It will always require the unceasing efforts of the generations of journalists and soldiers today and tomorrow. And above all, in any circumstance, the People's Army newspaper is always proud of its unchanging traditional values, being a heroic newspaper in the resistance war and also a heroic newspaper in the peaceful construction and protection of the Fatherland.
