Pre-match review
Despite facing many difficulties in the 2024/25 season, Man City still maintained stability in the FA Cup, when they reached the semi-finals of this tournament for the seventh consecutive year, after winning against Bournemouth last weekend.
Despite falling behind in the first half, young talent Nico O'Reilly came off the bench to help the Citizens make a dramatic comeback. The 20-year-old set up both Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush to help the team win 2-1 and book a ticket to Wembley to face Nottingham Forest at the end of April.
However, Man City's form in the Premier League has been inconsistent. Two FA Cup wins against Plymouth Argyle and Bournemouth were sandwiched between two disappointing games: a 0-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest and a disappointing draw at home to Brighton.
The Etihad Stadium – an “impregnable fortress” in recent years – is no longer a solid support for Man City this season. They are only ranked 6th in terms of home record in the Premier League, and have only won 1 point after the last 2 matches here.
On the other side, Leicester are sliding into a nightmare. In the Premier League, coach Ruud van Nistelrooy and his team are on a streak of 6 consecutive losses without scoring a single goal, conceding 16 goals. In the most recent round, they were destroyed 0-3 by Manchester United right at home at King Power Stadium.
Not only that, Leicester also have the worst away defense in the Premier League this season, with 35 goals conceded after 14 matches.
Form, head-to-head history
In the last 6 matches, Man City won 3, drew 1, lost 2. Meanwhile, Leicester City lost all 6 matches. That made the Foxes fall freely to the second to last position on the rankings with 17 points, equal to the team above, Ipswich, but 9 points behind the safe zone. With the current form, this team will find it difficult to do anything at Etihad.
Force situation
Man City are without Erling Haaland, who picked up a knee injury against Bournemouth, while Rodri is still out. Nico O'Reilly could be handed his first Premier League start by Pep Guardiola after a brilliant performance in the FA Cup.
On Leicester's side, Abdul Fatawu is out for the long term with a serious knee injury. Harry Souttar is also out with an ankle injury. Defender Ricardo Pereira is doubtful, while Odsonne Edouard is no longer in Van Nistelrooy's plans.
Man City : Ederson; Nunes, Gvardiol, Dias, O'Reilly; Gonzalez, Gundogan; Savinho, De Bruyne, Doku; Marmoush
Leicester : Hermansen; Faes, Coady, Okoli; Justin, Ndidi, Winks, Kristiansen; Buonanotte, El Khannouss; Vardy
Score prediction: Man City 2-0 Leicester
