Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology opens new school year

On the morning of August 24, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (VNU-HCM) held the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year, welcoming more than 5,000 new students in various training programs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Mai Thanh Phong, Principal of the University of Technology, said that the choice of students and their families to attend the school is not random, especially when faced with many diverse options.

The leaders of the University of Technology emphasized that the progress of science and technology is always the launching pad for the breakthrough development of each country. For Vietnam, this is the foundation for the country to catch up and progress with the times. High-level human resources in engineering and technology are the key factor to carry out industrialization and modernization, bringing the country to rapid and sustainable development.

As a leading technical university in the country, the University of Science and Technology currently has a training scale of more than 25,000 undergraduate students, more than 2,000 graduate students and about 250 PhDs each year. The school is training 39 undergraduate majors, 34 master's majors, 32 doctoral majors, covering most of the necessary fields of engineering technology, including pioneering majors leading the trend in management, administration, microchip design, logistics..., ready to meet the urgent needs of society.

Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Thanh Phong noted that in the upcoming journey, the learning process at the school will certainly be difficult, requiring students to have patience, discipline, creativity and health. However, the journey of the students always has the support of teachers, school staff and seniors.

In 2024, the University of Science and Technology will use 5 admission methods. The main method is comprehensive admission (including criteria: academic performance, personal achievements and social activities, literature, sports and fine arts). The academic criteria account for 90%, including the results of the competency assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University or Hanoi National University (weight 70%), the results of the high school graduation exam (weight 20%), and the results of the high school learning process (weight 10%).

Admission results statistics show that nearly 29% of candidates have a competency assessment score of over 900 points, nearly 10% of candidates have a high school graduation exam score of over 27 points and at the same time a competency assessment score of over 900. Admission scores for most majors have increased sharply, the highest increase is in computer engineering (program taught and learned in English).

Among the provinces/cities with students admitted to the school, Ho Chi Minh City continues to lead in the percentage of admitted students, with Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted at the top of the list. More than 19% of this year's new students are female.

Polytechnic University awards 4 excellent students at the beginning of the course

At the opening ceremony, the University of Technology awarded 4 new students with the best entrance results. In the comprehensive admission method, the male valedictorian was Pham Minh Tien (Le Thanh Tong Secondary School, Ho Chi Minh City) with a total score of 95.62. The new student Pham Nhu Ha Linh (Nguyen Du High School for the Gifted, Dak Lak Province) with an impressive score of 93.02 was the female student with the best entrance result.

Achieving 1,080 points in the capacity assessment is new student Dinh Quoc Thinh (Nguyen Trai High School, Khanh Hoa) - the valedictorian based on the capacity assessment test score, and also the runner-up of the comprehensive method. The valedictorian of the A1 block nationwide, Nguyen Hao Thien (Le Thanh Tong Secondary School, Ho Chi Minh City) is also the student at the top of the list based on the high school exam score with 29.8 points.

In the new school year 2024-2025, the University of Technology received 7 billion VND in scholarships from alumni, businesses, and scholarship funds. In addition, the school continues to implement the loan guarantee program - interest rate support for students paying tuition fees of the Phu Tho - University of Technology Alumni Community Representative Board and the preferential loan program for studying with 0% interest rate of Ho Chi Minh City National University.

According to the training plan, from August 26, students will start the new school year 2024-2025.
