The Egyptian government has denied rumors that it intends to sell some airports to foreign countries, as Cairo appears to be considering plans to hand over the management and operation of its airports to foreign investors, the Egypt Independent reported on October 11.
Egypt's Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Manar Enany has insisted that all of the country's airports are not for sale, saying they are fully state-owned and under Egyptian sovereignty.
Noting that “management and operation does not mean selling,” but only involves managing commercial activities within airports, the official further explained that Egypt is implementing a comprehensive strategy focusing on several key axes, including developing and upgrading airports as well as enhancing capacity according to international standards to improve services for passengers.
Accordingly, the construction of Ras El-Hekma Airport is one of the most important investment and development projects in the region. This is an important step in the plan to develop the city of Ras El-Hekma, west of Alexandria, as a world-class destination.
The Ras El-Hekma megaproject aims to become a world-class city, with the expectation of attracting at least 8 million additional international tourists to Egypt once the city is completed. An international airport will be built south of Ras El-Hekma to help boost economic development.
Ras El-Hekma Airport will also create many promising investment opportunities, contributing to boosting the tourism industry of this North African country.
