According to Mr. Hoai, on the evening of May 30, the Chi Thanh tunnel was dug from the North gate to the South gate, and the landslide and rock mass that had previously blocked the tunnel were transported out. After that, the construction unit continued to reinforce the tunnel to ensure safe passage for ships.
Present at Chi Thanh tunnel on the morning of May 31, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation, at exactly 11:45 a.m. the same day, the freight train numbered ASY22 with 23 carriages and a load capacity of 939 tons moved safely through Chi Thanh railway tunnel at a speed of 5km/h.
This is an effort by the railway industry, construction units and support units to complete the work of overcoming the landslide incident that occurred 10 days ago; thereby officially reconnecting the North-South railway line, serving the travel needs of people and transporting goods.
On May 31, train number HSE9 traveling from Hanoi station to Saigon station will be the first passenger train to pass through the Chi Thanh railway tunnel at 2:30 p.m. This will be followed by train SE21 traveling north-south and train SE8 traveling north-south through the Chi Thanh tunnel during the day.
Before the first freight train passes through, the construction unit will continue to inspect and repair the tunnel until it meets safety conditions and technical standards, then increase the speed of trains passing through the tunnel to 15km/h.

Before the first freight train runs through Chi Thanh tunnel after 10 days of congestion to fix landslides, the authorities will send a technical train to test the load, ensuring the safety of the trains passing through. Tunnel inspection and cleaning work on the route are also being carried out urgently and thoroughly.
According to the leader of Nha Trang Railway Transport Branch, in the 10 days since the Chi Thanh railway tunnel landslide incident occurred, the railway industry has organized 128 transit trains with more than 36,000 passengers.
To overcome this problem, the investor, Project Management Board 85, the railway industry mobilized hundreds of workers every day to work 24/7 to urgently construct. Then, due to the complexity of the Chi Thanh tunnel landslide, Deo Ca Group was also reinforced to coordinate to overcome the landslide and soon open the train.
As reported, at around 10:15 a.m. on May 21, a large amount of rock and soil in the Chi Thanh railway tunnel suddenly fell down while the construction train was reinforcing the tunnel. The estimated volume of rock and soil that collapsed was about 30 cubic meters. On the morning of May 26, at the old landslide location, a large amount of rock and soil (about 260 cubic meters) continued to slide down. Due to this incident, the Chi Thanh tunnel was blocked for 10 consecutive days.
Previously, in early April 2024, Bai Gio tunnel in Khanh Hoa province also suffered a landslide, causing the North-South railway system to be cut off for 10 days, causing damage to the railway industry of more than 50 billion VND.
