On the morning of April 12, in Hanoi, a training workshop on exploiting and using copyrighted images for publishing was held. Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh, Deputy Director of the Publishing House attended and chaired the workshop.

Also attending were Ms. Tran Thi Diem Chau, representative of DC2 Images, the official authorized dealer of Shutterstock in Vietnam; representatives of the leadership of the Vietnam Publishing Association, the Academy of Journalism and Communication, functional departments of the National Political Publishing House Truth, and representatives of publishers nationwide.

In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh, Deputy Director of the National Political Publishing House, Truth, said that how to properly use legal works is a matter of great concern to everyone, especially in the digital age and the current explosion of information technology.

In Vietnam, copyright and image copyright are regulated in the Law on Intellectual Property and its implementing decrees, to protect the rights and intellectual property of authors and prevent unauthorized use for personal or commercial purposes.

However, in reality, image copyright infringement is very common, in many forms and tends to be increasingly complicated because it occurs mainly in cyberspace. That causes great economic damage, moreover, it also brings mental damage to the owner if those images are used for unhealthy purposes.

Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh said that as the political publishing agency of the Party and State, the Truth National Political Publishing House has two important tasks: organizing the editing and publishing of political, theoretical and legal books and organizing scientific research and publishing.

Other publishers also have their own tasks, functions, readers, and service areas. But in general, publishers across the country have activities closely related to the exploitation and use of images for publishing and printing publications.

Therefore, raising awareness and equipping staff, editors, officials and workers working in the publishing environment with basic and in-depth knowledge on the issue of exploiting and using copyrighted images is an extremely necessary task at the present time.
