Speaking to VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quy Hop district (Nghe An), on June 29 said that the natural disaster caused a power transformer station of a local enterprise to be buried deep underground and has not been able to be repaired yet.

Specifically, a few days before, heavy rains occurred in Chau Tien Commune (Quy Hop District), causing erosion and landslides on the mountain. A low-voltage transformer station of Phuc Son Mineral Company Limited was buried in rocks and soil. In addition, a transformer station installed by INVECON Company next door was also affected and caused a complete power outage.

"Under the mountain there are karst caves, during the process of water erosion, natural subsidence occurs" - Mr. Tung explained the cause of the incident.

Phuc Son Enterprise representative said that the 320KVA low voltage transformer station collapsed and was buried in rocks and soil on June 26. The enterprise is still waiting for Nghe An Electricity's solution.

“The power outage over the past few days has prevented machines from operating and workers from taking time off. When the incident occurred, we reported it to the power company. Up to now, the company can only wait to come up with a solution. Several other companies also lost power after the incident,” he shared.

According to information from Quy Hop District Electricity, because a low-voltage transformer station was buried in a karst cave and could not be repaired, up to now, 13 customers, all of whom are mineral exploitation enterprises in Chau Tien and Chau Hong communes, have no electricity. In addition, the incident also caused 4 power poles on this line to collapse and be damaged.

“We have developed a plan to survey and fix the problem. This is the property of the enterprise, so the progress depends on the cooperation of the substation owner. The information has been reported to Nghe An Province Electricity,” said a representative of Quy Hop Electricity.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Vu Van Thoan, CEO of Lam Hong Transport Service Trading Company Limited, said that due to power outages, the company had to stop mining and processing stone for the past 3 days.

"In stone production, generators cannot be used because of high costs and large electrical capacity," said Mr. Thoan.

Mr. Thoan explained that many workers had to take a temporary leave of absence due to power outages. A day off from work causes a huge loss to the business, while the partners' orders have a schedule and time for goods delivery.

"We are very worried that our partners will fine us for late orders," Mr. Thoan shared.

A representative of another company also said that the power outage forced dozens of workers of this unit to take time off work, while the weather was extremely hot. On average, each day, the company still had to spend 13-15 million VND on fuel for the generator and water pump to operate.

"The electricity company said it will take another 10 days to have electricity. We are currently facing many difficulties in production. If the problem is not resolved soon, we will suffer heavy losses," he worried.

Mr. Tran Duc Loi, Vice Chairman of Quy Hop District People's Committee, informed that immediately after the incident, the district leaders assigned Quy Hop Electricity to work with the enterprise to protect the scene and develop a handling plan.
