Ho Chi Minh City increases more than 24,000 students in new school year

TPO - In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have 1,707,220 students, an increase of 24,097 students compared to the previous school year.

On August 16, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year for secondary education.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City has continuously maintained the leading position in English scores in the high school graduation exam for 8 consecutive years.

Reporting at the Conference, Mr. Le Duy Tan - Head of Secondary Education Department, Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that in the 2024 - 2025 school year, the city is expected to increase by 24,097 students (including: 17,288 public and 6,809 non-public). Divided by level, preschool increased by 6,262 students; primary school decreased by 6,185 students; secondary school increased by 7,022 students; high school increased the most with 16,999 students.

Regarding the scale of the school and classroom network, the whole city has 2,295 schools, including 1,357 public schools and 938 non-public schools.

In terms of achievements in exams, Ho Chi Minh City students always have high rankings. Specifically, in the National High School Science and Technology Competition, for the first time, Ho Chi Minh City students won the highest prize after 12 consecutive years of participating in this playground.

The Ho Chi Minh City team of excellent students ranked 2nd in the national excellent student exam, 10 places higher than the results of the 2022-2023 school year. Ho Chi Minh City also continuously maintained the leading position in English scores in the high school graduation exam for 8 consecutive years.

The city's student sports delegation participated in the 2024 National Phu Dong Sports Festival, won first prize in region IV and won first prize nationwide. This is the 10th consecutive time that Ho Chi Minh City has held the top position...

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, highly appreciated the outstanding achievements of the city's education sector in the 2023-2024 school year and set 6 key tasks in the 2024-2025 school year.

Specifically: Firstly, continue to implement the plan to build a "UNESCO Global Learning City in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2024 - 2030" in 2024. Complete the application for assessment and recognition of a "Learning Community" at the provincial level, send it to the Ministry of Education and Training for assessment and recognition of Ho Chi Minh City as a "Learning Community" at the provincial level.

The education sector needs to continue to promote the study and practice of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style to every cadre, teacher, staff and student; continue to effectively implement the construction of "Happy Schools" so that every teacher and every student can truly feel the joy and happiness of going to class and school.

Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le requested the education sector to focus on implementing emulation projects to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, including: Smart education program; Project to build Ho Chi Minh City - Center for training high-quality human resources of the country and the region; Construction project of 4,500 classrooms.
