In particular, the innovation scores and rankings of localities in the Mekong Delta are divided into 3 clear groups: Can Tho and Long An in the top group; Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Hau Giang and Tra Vinh in the second group; Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, An Giang, Ca Mau, Kien Giang in the third group.
According to Minister Huynh Thanh Dat, the Mekong Delta is considered a land of great potential with vast rice fields, rich aquatic ecosystems and abundant labor resources, an important pillar in Vietnam's agricultural economy.
However, the region is facing serious challenges from climate change, salinity intrusion, land subsidence and global competitive pressures.
"I believe that the close connection between the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City - the country's leading economic, commercial and technological center - is the key to overcoming challenges, keeping up with world trends in responding to climate change, and improving the region's competitiveness," said the Minister of Science and Technology.
To achieve sustainable development goals and ideas, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat proposed two key tasks that the Mekong Delta needs to focus on researching.
First, proactively propose and advise on support mechanisms and policies to promote the creative startup ecosystem in the direction of piloting new and specific mechanisms to implement in-depth activities.
Next, the Mekong Delta needs to continue implementing activities to build a creative startup ecosystem in localities in the region, linked to fields that exploit the region's strengths.

Ho Chi Minh City commits to be the locomotive linking economic development for the Mekong Delta
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - assessed that the potential for cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta is huge, however, the results so far have not been as expected, and regional linkage activities have not gone into depth due to many difficulties and challenges.
According to Mr. Hai, Ho Chi Minh City, with many favorable conditions compared to other localities, will continue to promote its core role, the leading locomotive in the new context, the new development trend of the world, helping the entire Mekong Delta region to develop rapidly, break through, remove difficulties, overcome challenges, and strive to achieve the highest results in the goals in the 5-year period (2021-2025).
The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that the city will continue to introduce large enterprises to invest in the provinces of the Mekong Delta, creating a driving force for the government to accompany enterprises in bilateral and multilateral cooperation with provinces and cities.
Also at the conference, Mr. Ho Van Mung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province - said that Mekong Connect is the largest annual economic forum in the Mekong Delta region, with extremely positive significance as well as an annual activity for businessmen, farmers, managers, and experts.

At the same time, this is also the goal of connecting and promoting comprehensive economic and social cooperation between provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City. In addition, it creates conditions for businesses to access and grasp opportunities and challenges when participating in the international market and strengthen links and cooperation to enhance competitive advantages and build appropriate business strategies.
Localities, businessmen, farmers, managers, domestic and foreign experts meet to build connections, establish contacts, and introduce their strengths and potential products.
The Mekong Connect 2024 Forum is a strategic regional connectivity initiative, launched in 2015, jointly implemented by the ABCD Mekong network (An Giang - Ben Tre - Can Tho - Dong Thap), with the participation of Ho Chi Minh City.
Up to now, Mekong Connect has successfully organized 8 events and this is the 9th time the event returns with the co-organization of An Giang Provincial People's Committee and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
