Ho Chi Minh City recruits more than 300 specialized grade 10 students

6 specialized high schools and schools with specialized classes in Ho Chi Minh City recruited 314 additional 10th grade students, nearly double last year.

Candidates are non-specialized grade 10 students of public schools or specialized grade 10 students who want to take the exam to another specialized school (previously registered for the exam but failed to pass). They must complete the first semester program with good academic results, the average score of the specialized exam subject must be 8 or higher.

Of the 314 additional quotas, Tran Dai Nghia specialized school recruited the most - 98 students, and the English specialized school recruited 32 students.

Additional quota for specialized 10th grade is as follows:

After that, students who pass the application round will take a 150-minute specialized subject test. If the test score is 6/10 or higher and the application is valid, the candidates will be considered by the schools from top to bottom until the quota is full.

In addition, Ho Chi Minh City is recruiting 191 additional students for integrated grade 10. Candidates for this class must also complete the first semester program with good training and study results, with an average score of 7.5 or higher in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.

Students will take an integrated exam in 150 minutes, with content based on the first semester curriculum of grade 10. Candidates will be considered for admission if they have a score of 5/10 or higher and a valid application.

Candidates taking the additional specialized and integrated class exam submit their application from January 5 to January 11, 2024 and take the exam on January 15, 2024.

The additional recruitment for specialized and integrated 10th grade is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training at the end of the first semester every year. According to the Department, the reason is that some candidates passed the entrance exam but did not enroll, and many students changed classes and schools after a period of study.

In the previous three years, the additional enrollment quota for specialized 10th graders fluctuated between 99 and 170 students.

In 2023, Ho Chi Minh City will have 96,000 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam for public schools. Of these, about 6,000 students will register for specialized schools and classes while the quota is 1,680.

Students taking the entrance exam for specialized 10th grade take the Math, Literature, and Foreign Language exams of the 10th grade entrance exam along with a specialized subject. The specialized admission score is the total score of the three basic subjects (coefficient 1) plus the specialized exam score (coefficient 2). For integrated classes, candidates still take the three basic subjects as in the specialized exam and take an additional integrated exam.

In August, Ho Chi Minh City recruited for the first time more than 3,000 regular 10th grade seats for 97 schools after thousands of candidates passed the entrance exam but dropped out. However, the result was only about 1,000 students were recruited.
