Ho Chi Minh City sets inauguration date for metro line 1

Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) will have its inauguration ceremony on March 9 after more than 2 months of operation.

On February 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) sent an urgent document to relevant units regarding the plan to organize the inauguration ceremony of metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).

Accordingly, metro line No. 1 will be inaugurated on March 9 in the area above Ben Thanh Station - 23/9 Park (District 1) with the participation of 500 - 700 delegates, including leaders of the Vietnamese Government and leaders of Japan (the country funding the project).

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board stated that the inauguration ceremony of Metro Line 1 is not only an important traffic event but also has political significance, aiming to welcome the 12th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress (term 2025-2030), the 14th National Party Congress, and at the same time celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and the 8th Ho Chi Minh City Patriotic Emulation Congress.

In addition, the event also marks the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam - Japan festival, demonstrating the friendship between the two countries.

Previously, Metro Line 1 was put into operation on December 22, 2024 after about 12 years of construction and received a lot of support from the people. In the first month of metro operation, Ho Chi Minh City exempted tickets for all passengers using metro and buses connecting to metro.

From January 21, the metro line officially collected tolls with ticket prices ranging from 7,000 - 20,000 VND/trip (cash payment) and 6,000 - 19,000 VND/trip (cashless payment).

During the 10 peak days of Lunar New Year 2025 (from January 24 to February 2), metro line 1 served 1,768 trains, with 761,416 passengers, earning more than 11.7 billion VND.
