On April 8, information from an official of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that in the next school year 2024 - 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to enroll specialized 10th graders at four regular high schools with the same expected quota as in 2023.
Accordingly, it is expected that Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (Tan Binh District) will recruit 175 students; Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District) will recruit 210 students; Mac Dinh Chi High School (District 6) will recruit 210 students; Nguyen Huu Huan High School (Thu Duc City) will recruit 175 students.
Specifically, the four schools mentioned above will recruit the following quotas and specialized classes:

Thus, the expected number of specialized 10th grade enrollment targets at four high schools that usually enroll specialized classes in the 2024-2025 school year remains unchanged compared to the previous school year.
The specialized class model in regular high schools has been implemented in Ho Chi Minh City since 2008, and has been in operation for 16 years.
The specialized class model in high schools has often been assessed as having brought momentum to these high schools, while also creating favorable conditions for students from suburban areas who have the desire and ability to study in specialized classes.
However, it is expected that after enrolling 10th grade students in the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City may stop enrolling specialized 10th grade students in the four above-mentioned regular high schools in the next school year.
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City announced that it would stop enrolling regular 10th grade students in two specialized high schools from the 2024-2025 school year: Le Hong Phong Specialized High School and Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School. This is to comply with the regulations on organization and operation of specialized high schools of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Admission requirements for specialized grade 10
According to Ms. Nguyen Xuan Mai, Deputy Head of Examination Department of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, to take the entrance exam to specialized classes, all students must meet the following two conditions: the results of the assessment of training and learning for the entire school year of grades 6, 7, 8 must be good or better; and they must graduate from junior high school with honors.
Candidates will take four essay exams, including: literature, math, foreign language (foreign language 1 being studied at school) and one specialized exam according to the registered subject.
The exam time for non-specialized subjects: literature and math is 120 minutes; foreign language is 90 minutes. Specialized exams are 150 minutes each.
