The 14th Party Congress will be an important milestone on the path of national development, continuing to comprehensively and synchronously promote the innovation process, according to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
On the morning of February 23, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong chaired the first meeting of the 14th Congress Document Subcommittee.
Also attending were President Vo Van Thuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that the 14th Party Congress "is a political event of great significance in many aspects".
The Congress took place at a time when Vietnam had undergone 40 years of renovation, 35 years of implementing the Platform for National Construction in the Transitional Period to Socialism (the 1991 Platform), and 5 years of implementing the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress. The country had achieved many important and outstanding results, with many bright spots, creating the premise for Vietnam to enter a new development stage with new opportunities, advantages, and greater challenges intertwined.
At the same time, the Congress will determine the direction, goals and tasks of the entire Party, people and army in the next 5 years (2026-2030); review the leadership of the 13th Central Committee; amend the Party Charter; and elect the 14th Central Committee.

According to the General Secretary, the 14th Congress will be another important milestone on the development path of the country and the nation, with the meaning of orienting the future; encouraging, cheering, and motivating the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army to continue to firmly follow the path to socialism, affirming that this is the right, creative choice, in line with Vietnam's reality and the development trend of the times.
The Congress will continue to comprehensively and synchronously promote the renovation process, firmly protect the Fatherland, strive to make Vietnam a developing country by 2030, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party, with modern industry and high average income; by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to become a developed country with high income; build a rich, prosperous, civilized, happy Vietnam, firmly advancing towards socialism.
The General Secretary requested to firmly adhere to and creatively apply and develop Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought; firmly adhere to the goals of national independence and socialism, the Party's renewal policy and the principles of Party building to firmly build and defend the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.
The two tasks of building and defending the Fatherland need to be closely combined. The major relationships that need to be handled well are between innovation, stability and development; economic innovation and political innovation; following market rules and ensuring socialist orientation; developing productive forces and perfecting appropriate production relations; the relationship between the state, the market and society; between economic growth and cultural development, realizing social progress and equity, protecting the environment; building and defending the Fatherland; independence, autonomy and international integration; Party leadership, State management, people's mastery; practicing democracy and strengthening the rule of law, ensuring social discipline.

The General Secretary also requested that the process of building documents for the 14th Party Congress must smoothly combine theoretical research with summarizing practical development in the fields of politics, economics, culture, society, national defense, security, and foreign affairs; with building the Party and the political system, synchronously forming institutions for rapid and sustainable development of the country based on the pillars of a socialist-oriented market economy, a socialist rule-of-law state, and Vietnamese socialist democracy.
"The political report of this National Party Congress must be a scientific work that crystallizes the theoretical level and intellectual height of the entire Party, the beliefs and aspirations of the entire nation, reflecting the objective laws of reality and new trends of reality," the General Secretary emphasized.
According to the plan, the 14th National Party Congress is scheduled to be held in January 2026. In preparation, the 8th Conference of the 13th Central Executive Committee established 5 subcommittees, including the Documents Subcommittee headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The Document Subcommittee is responsible for preparing the Political Report and the Summary Report on 40 years of innovation to be presented to the 14th Party Congress./.
