Honoring 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers in 2024

This is a special event within the series of the Vietnamese Farmers' Pride Program in 2024. The program is organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union in coordination with the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Farmers' Union (October 14, 1930 - October 14, 2024).

Attending the ceremony were Politburo member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; Party Central Committee member, Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union Luong Quoc Doan; along with comrades representing Central and local Committees, Ministries, and branches; representatives of Farmers' Unions of provinces and centrally-run cities; representatives of experts and scientists... In particular, the ceremony was attended by 63 outstanding Vietnamese Farmers of 2024 and 63 representatives of typical cooperatives nationwide.

2024 is the 12th consecutive year that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union has hosted a series of events called the Pride of Vietnamese Farmers, with the main activity being the ceremony to honor outstanding Vietnamese Farmers. This is also the second year that the Vietnam Farmers' Union has reviewed and honored 63 outstanding cooperatives nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union Luong Quoc Doan said that in recent years, the Union at all levels has actively carried out patriotic emulation movements, typically the movement of farmers competing in production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty.

From the practice of patriotic emulation movements, there has emerged a class of typical farmers who are excellent in production and business, participating in protecting the sea and islands of the Fatherland, many typical cooperatives, operating effectively in many fields such as agricultural production; services...

In the emulation movement to build new rural areas, many exemplary farmers donated land; contributed labor and money to build infrastructure and help families in difficult circumstances develop production and improve their lives.

Outstanding Vietnamese farmers and typical cooperatives have made important contributions to the results of restructuring the agricultural sector towards quality and efficiency, forming multi-value production chains, contributing to promoting economic growth, building new rural areas and sustainable poverty reduction.

“The organization of honoring outstanding Vietnamese farmers and praising typical cooperatives creates a strong spread of new farmer models and new-style cooperatives with 5 criteria: new awareness; new knowledge; new consciousness; new determination and high income, contributing to realizing the Party's Resolution, arousing the aspiration to build a prosperous and happy country” - Mr. Luong Quoc Doan emphasized.

Some impressive figures about outstanding Vietnamese farmers include: the highest revenue belongs to farmer Nguyen Thi Bien (Thanh Hoa) with 150 billion VND, farmer Nguyen Duc Menh (Hai Duong) with 95 billion VND. The largest production linkage area belongs to farmer Nguyen Thanh Tuan (Kien Giang) with 500 hectares. The highest profit belongs to farmer Nguyen Minh Nhu (Ben Tre) with 20.5 billion VND thanks to the shrimp farming model.

Notably, many ecotourism and agricultural tourism models have emerged, led by farmers. Many candidates are PhDs in biology, engineers, bachelors, etc., looking for investment opportunities in the agricultural sector.
