Specifically, at around 10 p.m. on April 10, at the cardamom farm of Mr. Sung A Pao's family (46 years old) in Chu Va 8 village, Son Binh commune, Tam Duong district, a suspected case of food poisoning occurred.
The three people suspected of poisoning include: Mr. Sung A Pao, born in 1979, Sung A Duong, born in 2004 and Giang Thi Cau, born in 2009.
After eating lunch and dinner with chicken and 3 mushrooms picked by Mr. Pao from his family's cardamom field, 3 people showed signs of poisoning.
The three mushrooms that Mr. Pao picked from the field were: 2 as big as the top of a rice bowl, 1 as big as the bottom of a rice bowl, shaped like an umbrella, and dark brown in color.
After dinner, at 10 p.m. the same day, patient Giang Thi Cau was the first to show symptoms such as: abdominal pain, nausea (vomiting about 9 times), and frequent bowel movements.
At about 1:00 a.m. on April 11, patient Sung A Duong showed symptoms similar to victim Cau (vomiting about 8 times).
At 4:00 a.m. on April 11, patient Sung A Pao also showed the above symptoms (vomited about 5 times).
At 6:00 p.m. the same day, the patients were taken to Tam Duong District Medical Center for examination and treatment.

Two patients, Sung A Duong and Giang Thi Cau, were transferred to Lai Chau General Hospital for treatment at 0:40 a.m. on April 14. At Lai Chau General Hospital, Giang Thi Cau was diagnosed with acute liver failure suspected to be due to mushroom poisoning and gastrointestinal bleeding. Sung A Duong was diagnosed with acute liver failure suspected to be due to mushroom poisoning.
On April 15, patients Giang Thi Cau and Sung A Duong were transferred to Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi) for treatment.
At 11:00 p.m. on April 16, patient Giang Thi Cau died and was brought home for burial.
Patient Sung A Duong continues to be treated at Bach Mai Hospital.
Currently, patient Sung A Pao's health is stable, alert, not vomiting, not having diarrhea.
Lai Chau provincial authorities recommend that people be cautious when using mushrooms harvested from the wild. If the origin or type of mushroom is unclear, it should not be used to avoid unfortunate incidents.
