Requires consensus from all parties
Khanh Hoa Football Club, together with the locality, is making efforts to find solutions and urge sponsors to quickly fulfill their commitments, urging them not to owe the team any more money. The salary and signing bonus debts that Khanh Hoa is facing mainly come from the sponsors' slow disbursement to the team, even though the parties had made commitments before the 2023-2024 season.
Therefore, this is the time when the coastal city football team needs more support than ever. Sponsors should also fulfill their commitments. Because the rights of players and workers in the football field need to be fulfilled. The players have worked hard throughout the season, sweating on the field, even though they could not help Khanh Hoa stay in the V-League, they have contributed to maintaining the image of the club, maintaining the image of the sponsors themselves. They maintain the image of a team that fights until the end of the season, not giving up despite the period of unpaid wages.
Khanh Hoa Club is facing many financial difficulties.
Previously, Khanh Hoa Club was also banned from transferring players by the World Football Federation (FIFA) from August 2024 to the end of August 2025, which corresponds to 2 summer transfer periods and 1 winter transfer period according to global player transfer practices (a total of 3 transfer periods). The incident also stemmed from the fact that Khanh Hoa Club owed Guinean player Mamadou Guirassy a salary and this player brought the matter to FIFA.
This was an unexpected incident, Khanh Hoa team itself also tried to pay the debt to player Mamadou Guirassy, but the dispute between the parties came from the difference between the salary calculation from Khanh Hoa team (claiming that only 19,500 USD had to be paid - about 490 million VND, equivalent to 3 months' salary), compared to the calculation from player Mamadou Guirassy (with the additional difference in the amount of penalty for late payment and interest, about 27,900 USD, about 700 million VND).
It must be affirmed that the coastal city team is very willing to complete this debt, but due to Mamadou Guirassy's visa procedures, the money has not yet reached the Guinean player.
In an emergency meeting chaired by the province on August 14, the plan was proposed that the sponsor must pay off all debts to player Mamadou Guirassy as well as other players from the previous season. After FIFA lifted the ban on registering new players, negotiations will continue with the VFF to consider whether Khanh Hoa Club can participate in the first division in the 2024-2025 season. Everything must be done this week because the VFF is preparing to finalize the list for the new season. If the conditions are not met, the club will be forced to relegate to the third division.
FIFA rules have no exceptions.
The incident is also due to the lack of experience of Vietnamese football clubs when playing professional football. The regulations of FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) are very strict, with these organizations, the law is the law, there is no "if". That is why sponsors must also understand this detail, fulfill their commitments to the clubs, so that the clubs can fulfill their commitments to the players and team members. I believe that when sponsors want to join hands with Vietnamese football, with each club of Vietnamese football, all parties want our football to be better, no one, no sponsor wants Vietnamese football to lose face internationally, the image of Vietnamese football to deteriorate in the eyes of FIFA and AFC. This is also what the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has repeatedly warned domestic clubs.
Khanh Hoa Club must accept FIFA penalty
Later on, in the trend of globalization, information about Vietnamese football appears more and more on the international level, the interaction of Vietnamese football with the international football world is more and more frequent, so the bad events that appear in the country in the later period will almost be... internationalized.
Therefore, what happens at clubs is no longer a matter of each team or each locality, but has become a common matter of Vietnamese football. Any incident that occurs at any club or locality can affect the entire domestic football scene. If the incident is repeated many times, domestic football will also face the possibility of FIFA and AFC taking further, stronger action.
That is also the reason why VFF has tightened the regulations on registering clubs in the domestic leagues in the future, because if not tightened, the consequences later could be very serious. For example, in the case of Khanh Hoa team, if this team is relegated to the third division, it means that this team has to start over from scratch. On the other hand, the national first division (where Khanh Hoa is still present up to now) will be missing a team. This will certainly disrupt the tournament, the match schedule will have to be rearranged, and the number of promotion and relegation slots between the first and second divisions may also have to be recalculated.
The case of Khanh Hoa Club is a lesson for Vietnamese football.
In general, the incident at Khanh Hoa team will affect the entire domestic football competition system in the 2024-2025 season. That is the reason why while the incident can still be saved, it needs the cooperation of all parties, Khanh Hoa Football Club and the locality are making great efforts for Vietnamese football, now they are just waiting for a signal from the sponsors!
