Nguyen Trung Cuong thanks himself for 'not giving up' at Tien Phong Marathon 2025

Nguyen Trung Cuong has health problems but still wins Tien Phong Marathon 2025.

Tien Phong Marathon 2025 was held on the sacred land of Quang Tri, where the heroic history of the nation was imprinted. Amidst the challenging route, with steep slopes and many bridge crossings, Nguyen Trung Cuong ran with all his determination, despite not being in perfect physical condition.

"Thank you to myself for my constant efforts. Even though I got sick right before the tournament, I still achieved my goal," Trung Cuong shared after his courageous victory. He finished first with a time of 1 hour 07 minutes 15 seconds over a distance of 21.195km, surpassing many formidable opponents.

This is only the second time Trung Cuong has competed in the 21.125km distance at Tien Phong Marathon and both times he has won. The first time in Phu Yen, Trung Cuong finished first with a time of 1 hour 08 minutes 13.

Trung Cuong expressed regret at not being able to compete with famous foreign opponent Kimutai Hillary Kipchumba from Kenya, who was unable to attend due to visa problems.

"I didn't receive much fierce competition, so I focused on each step to complete my personal goal. Although I was quite tired, I felt happy and proud to run on the historical route. This is the place where our ancestors shed so much blood to connect the two parts of the country. I am also very grateful to the dear people in this sacred land."

In the moment standing on the podium of glory, Trung Cuong expressed his sincere thanks to his loved ones - family, wife, children, coaches and friends who have always supported him on his career path.

"Thank you to my beloved wife and daughter who have always been my motivation to strive. Thank you to the coach and those who have accompanied and helped me throughout the preparation and competition process," he confided. In particular, this victory is also a meaningful gift that Trung Cuong wants to give to his daughter on the occasion of her upcoming 4th birthday.

Nguyen Trung Cuong, born in 2000 in Ha Tinh, was discovered to have talent since middle school after winning the Phu Dong Sports Festival at district and provincial levels. Joining the national athletics team in 2016, Trung Cuong was trained and oriented for development by coach Tran Van Sy.

Trung Cuong's outstanding achievements include the Silver Medal in the 3000m Steeplechase at the 30th SEA Games and the Gold Medal in the 32nd SEA Games 3000m Steeplechase. Trung Cuong also broke the 2022 National Sports Festival record in both the 5,000m and 3,000m Steeplechase events.

As for Tien Phong Marathon, Trung Cuong won the Gold Medal in the youth category in 2028 and 2019, was the runner-up in the 10km distance at Tien Phong Marathon 2023, the champion in the 21km distance at Tien Phong Marathon 2024 and 2025, along with many other achievements in grassroots running competitions.
