Việt NamViệt Nam20/02/2024

This afternoon, February 20, information from the People's Committee of Ward 4 (Dong Ha City) said that the locality is taking steps to find relatives for a baby abandoned in front of the gate of Kieu Dam Pagoda in Ward 4.

Dong Ha: Finding relatives for abandoned children

Previously, at around 8:50 p.m. on February 8, Ward 4 People's Committee received a report that a newborn baby had been abandoned at Kieu Dam Pagoda. The baby was female, about 6 months old, and in stable health. When discovered, the baby was wearing a long-sleeved blue and white striped shirt, green pants, and was wrapped in a pink scarf. Along with it were 5 sets of newborn clothes and diapers, a box of hot nutritious porridge, and a letter.

The letter stated that the child’s mother was still in school and therefore had no means to raise her child. Therefore, she decided to leave the child in front of the temple for the nuns to care for and raise.

According to Vice Chairman of Ward 4 People's Committee Nguyen Tai Hoang Na, Ward 4 People's Committee has temporarily given the child to the person who found him to take care of and raise. The locality will widely announce so that the child's relatives can come forward and carry out procedures to reclaim the child. If after 7 days from the date of the announcement, no one contacts to reclaim the child, Ward 4 People's Committee will carry out procedures according to the law.

Previously, in July 2023, a newborn baby boy was also abandoned in front of Kieu Dam Pagoda with a letter asking the pagoda to take care of him because the boy's mother was still in school.
