Continue to strengthen the Vietnam-France strategic partnership

Delighted to welcome Ambassador Nicolas Warnery, the National Assembly Chairman emphasized that during the Ambassador's tenure in Vietnam, the world as well as France and Vietnam faced many difficulties, including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the world situation had many complex and unpredictable developments.

In that context, the Vietnam-France Strategic Partnership continues to be maintained and strengthened in all aspects. High-ranking leaders of the two countries have met and held direct and online talks. Notably, President of the Senate Gérard Larcher paid an official visit to Vietnam, together with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, to launch a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1973-2023).

The National Assembly Chairman sincerely thanked France, as well as the European community, for their timely assistance in epidemic prevention and control activities, especially the support of Covid-19 vaccines.

The National Assembly Chairman said that in addition to the excellent political and diplomatic relations, economic, trade, investment cooperation and other cooperation channels continue to be strengthened, consolidated and developed. Since the beginning of 2023, the two countries have coordinated to organize many activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The National Assembly Chairman particularly appreciated the 12th Vietnam-France Local Cooperation Conference with the theme “Local Cooperation: A Driving Force for Sustainable and Comprehensive Recovery and Development after the Covid-19 Pandemic” held in Hanoi, as well as many cultural activities held in each country.

These cooperation results have important contributions from the Ambassador and the staff of the French Embassy in Vietnam, as well as the Ambassador and the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in France.

Ambassador Nicolas Warnery thanked the National Assembly Chairman for taking the time to receive him; and expressed his joy during his term in Vietnam, although both countries went through a difficult period due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there were noble gestures, mutual support in preventing and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as direct and online meetings between senior leaders, ministries and sectors.

After the pandemic, with the resumption of flights, senior leaders of the two countries promoted visits, such as the official visit to the French Republic by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the official visit to Vietnam by President of the French Senate Gérard Larcher.

Emphasizing that the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries has been marked by many diverse and rich activities, both international and popular, and cultural cooperation is an important area in bilateral cooperation, the Ambassador said that according to the plan, next December, in Hue, cultural activities will take place to conclude the year of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. From now until the end of the year, a number of events related to economic cooperation, research, etc. will take place.

The Ambassador expressed his delight that recently, relevant agencies of both sides have specifically implemented a cooperation project in implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that the two countries have had half a century of diplomatic relations, 10 years of strategic partnership and are preparing for a bright future in the next half century. Vietnam wishes to continue to consolidate and enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries through all channels of the Party, State, Parliament and people-to-people exchange.

At the same time, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue hopes that, in addition to the excellent political, diplomatic and people-to-people relations, Vietnam and France will continue to further strengthen cooperation in economics, trade, investment and tourism.

The two sides will continue to coordinate to speed up the construction progress, complete and soon put into operation the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station urban railway line; promote the project to renovate and embellish Long Bien Bridge into a pedestrian bridge in Hanoi.

Emphasizing that the ratification of the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and the removal of the "yellow card" that the European Commission (EC) has warned about Vietnamese seafood are two very urgent issues, the National Assembly Chairman suggested that the European Union, the European Parliament as well as the parliaments of the member countries promptly promote the resolution of these two issues, contributing to promoting the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the European Union in general, and the relationship between Vietnam and France in particular.

On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman respectfully reiterated the invitation to the French Senate and National Assembly to send a delegation to attend the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Vietnam next September.

Ambassador Nicolas Warnery thanked and said he would convey the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to the French Parliamentary Delegation to attend the Conference; at the same time, he shared that in the near future, the France-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group at the French Senate will visit Vietnam to promote cooperation between the parliamentary groups of the two countries, as well as learn about the country and people of Vietnam.
