Mr. Nguyen Van Luong (born in 1957, in Bac Giang City) researched and built a unique 360-degree rotating house that has attracted a lot of attention.
He searched the internet for information about mechanics and machine manufacturing, then came up with the idea to design and build this rotating house.
In 2012, Mr. Luong started building the house. The house is about 100 square meters wide, 3 floors high, can rotate 360 degrees, and was completed in 4 years. Of which, the basement alone took 3.5 years to complete, while the two upper floors took only 4-5 months. The basement contains 50 cubic meters of water.
According to Mr. Luong, the house operates like a boat in a water tank. Outside is a circular water tank about 14m in diameter and 4m deep. Inside is a small tank about 12m long.
The inner tank is like a buoy. When water is poured into the outer tank, the buoy floats up. On that buoy, Mr. Luong built the house. In the middle of the buoy, there is a rotating shaft, propellers, etc. to help the house move.
Thanks to the buoyancy of the water, the house can rotate with just a small force. Mr. Luong said that in the past, he could rotate the house with 12V electricity, but now he connects it to the 220V grid for convenience without needing a battery.
Mr. Luong estimated the house's weight to be about 420 tons. The fastest rotation speed is about 10 minutes/revolution, the slowest is 24 hours/revolution.
"My house is located on a concrete buoy with a load capacity of about 500 tons. This buoy is very durable when submerged in water, does not rust, and does not require maintenance. In fact, my concrete buoy is very thin and light to float. But the problem of a thin buoy is water leakage. So how can a concrete buoy, although thin, still withstand a load of 500 tons without leaking water? This is a whole process of my research and experimentation," said Mr. Luong.
By 2022, Mr. Luong's work was recognized by the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office as an exclusive patent for the rotating house model in a water tank.
Mr. Luong revealed that he is also selling the copyright to build a rotating house.
“I hope my results can be widely applied. It is very suitable for tourist areas," said Mr. Luong.
According to Mr. Luong, recently he has heard a lot of information about him selling the copyright of the rotating house for 1 million USD (about 25 billion VND).
Mr. Luong said that there is currently a project to build a hotel in Quang Ninh with 14 floors and 2000m2 of floor space. They have contacted to buy the copyright, but have not yet reached an agreement.
There is also a project in Luong Son, Hoa Binh, a 7-storey house with a floor area of about 450m2, which is also in the process of being contacted to buy the design.
"The copyright fee depends on the size of the house, and can be negotiated. Even if I like it, I can build it for you, because this is just knowledge and doesn't cost anything," said Mr. Luong.
Mr. Luong admitted that currently, only the project in Luong Son, Hoa Binh has deposited 100 million to buy back the design, but he refused to disclose the actual value of the contract.
He also said that the information about selling copyright for 1 million USD is "just a rumor".
