Along with the recovery of industrial production, since the end of 2023, small-scale industry and rural industries have also recorded positive production and consumption signals. Entering 2024, many products continue to be recognized as OCOP products and rural industrial products; programs to support market expansion, product promotion and advertising are also being widely organized, creating favorable conditions for businesses and production establishments to boost product consumption and create jobs for workers.
Products branded Tac Huy fish sauce (Nghi Son town) are promoted at the 2024 Thanh Hoa Province Safe Food Fair, held in Cam Thuy district.
As a purely agricultural commune in the lowland area of Quang Xuong district, Quang Phuc is famous for its traditional occupations of growing sedge, weaving mats and catching and processing crabs. With the goal of building a brand for traditional products, continuing to expand the output market for rural industry products, in 2020, Quang Phuc Agricultural Production, Business and Service Cooperative was established, attracting more than 100 households to participate. Along with investing in machinery and equipment, producing crab paste to ensure food safety, the Cooperative has carried out product quality registration procedures. Up to now, Quang Phuc commune has had 4 products: crab paste, sedge mats, crushed crabs, crushed crabs recognized as 3-4 star provincial OCOP products and this is also one of the 3 commune-level localities with the largest number of OCOP products in the province.
Recently, the sedge mat product of Quang Phuc Agricultural Production, Trading and Service Cooperative was recognized as one of the 10 typical industrial products in 2023 and was selected to vote for typical rural industrial products at the regional level. Mr. Le Van Bang, Director of the Cooperative, said: "From 2022 to now, the quantity and revenue of products have grown quite steadily. Typically, in 2023, the Cooperative produced and consumed up to 150,000 products. With positive signals from orders since the beginning of the year, the Cooperative plans to produce and consume 160,000 products in 2024 and increase to 170,000 products in the following years".
In the Do Xuyen - Ba Lang fish sauce production village (Nghi Son town), the number of orders in the first months of this year has also increased by about 20% - 30% compared to the same period last year. It is known that along with the fact that businesses and production facilities in the village focus on improving product quality, investing in technology application and improving designs, being recognized as a typical rural industrial product and achieving OCOP certification also creates conditions of a "turning point" in consumption activities. Mr. Duong Van Tac, owner of Tac Huy fish sauce production facility, Chairman of Do Xuyen - Ba Lang Fish Sauce Association, shared: "We are increasingly receiving large orders from other provinces. Therefore, our facility strives to consume double the output of last year. Along with continuing to invest, improve product quality, and create prestige with customers, we also actively participate in many markets and fairs to promote and bring products to consumers.
Thanh Hoa currently has 116 industrial and handicraft villages with thousands of rural production and business establishments in operation. Annually, the total revenue from production and business activities in recognized craft villages reaches thousands of billions of VND; in which, the handicraft production group has the largest revenue, about 50% and creates jobs for nearly 16,000 workers. The average income of craft village workers currently reaches 4 to 12 million VND/person/month.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, in addition to the limitations due to small scale, the promotion and consumption stage is still a "weak point" of small-scale handicraft villages. Every year, the Center for Industrial Promotion and Energy Conservation under the Department has consulted on support programs for the application of machinery technology to support establishments to increase business efficiency; at the same time, it has organized many activities to connect and promote product consumption. This year, the Department and related sectors have been implementing many fairs and exhibitions; thereby, helping production and business partners meet and successfully sign many consumption contracts, bringing small-scale handicraft products and craft villages of Thanh Hoa province to reach far in the market.
