Prime Minister: Vietnam - Poland find the best way to cooperate

On the afternoon of January 16, during the official visit to Poland, after the talks, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with the press to announce the results of the talks.

Vietnam has made a strong impression on the world.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that with the close relationship between the two countries as friends, "the two countries have many similar experiences in the past", the meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was a valuable experience for him personally.

The two sides discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern, as well as measures to continue promoting common points and promoting the traditional friendship between the two countries in all fields.

Emphasizing that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had mentioned important issues and next steps, the Polish Prime Minister especially appreciated the Vietnamese side's decision to apply short-term visa exemption for Polish citizens, which will help more and more Polish tourists visit Vietnam.

At the same time, the head of the Polish Government affirmed that the country will soon ratify the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). "Poland will not be the last country to ratify this Agreement," he said, and pledged that he personally will continue to focus on promoting bilateral relations "as closely as possible."

The Polish Prime Minister emphasized that economic cooperation between the two countries plays an important role, and that Vietnam has made a strong impression on the world with its achievements in socio-economic development and economic growth. "We understand very well Vietnam's starting point after the war," he shared.

The Polish Prime Minister believes that economic cooperation between the two sides will reach new heights in many areas, including increasing trade turnover in a more balanced direction, as well as creating more ideas for bilateral investment, especially cooperation and investment in the defense and security industry.

Another important area mentioned by the Polish Prime Minister was strengthening cooperation between the EU and ASEAN regions; thanking Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for always supporting this cooperation.

Sharing affectionately that the two Prime Ministers are of the same generation, the Polish Prime Minister said that the two sides have different experiences but always have close feelings and believe that this will continue to be maintained in the future.

He expressed his gratitude and was delighted to accept Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's invitation to visit Vietnam again and hoped the visit could take place this year, the year the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Core values ​​do not change even though the world changes

For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh completely agreed with the sharing of Prime Minister Donald Tusk; expressed his great joy in leading a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Government to officially visit Poland - the land of great people such as Copernicus, Marie Curie, Chopin, a beautiful country with a long-standing culture and rich hospitality; thanked the Polish side for the sincere, trustworthy and effective reception given to the Vietnamese delegation.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam will never forget the sentiments and valuable support that Poland has given Vietnam over the past 75 years, especially in the past struggle for independence, sovereignty, and national reunification and in the present-day construction and protection of the country. Poland was also one of the first countries in the European Union (EU) to support Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"No matter how the world changes, no matter how difficult or complicated the situation is, the core values ​​and feelings of the people of the two countries and nations will not change, and not only will they not change, but they will become deeper, more comprehensive and more effective," the Prime Minister stated.

Pleased to witness Poland's important achievements in recent times, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also said that the scale of Vietnam's economy has gone from "no name in the world" in the years before the reform to about 470 billion USD by 2024, ranking 33-34 in the world. These achievements include contributions from the cooperative relationship with Poland.

The traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Poland are developing positively in all fields. Political trust is consolidated and developed; delegation exchanges and high-level contacts are maintained, and each other is actively supported at international and multilateral forums.

Trade and investment cooperation is developing strongly: Poland is Vietnam's largest trading partner in Central Eastern Europe; two-way trade turnover is increasing continuously, reaching over 3.2 billion USD in 2024, an increase of more than 14% compared to 2023.

Cooperation in other fields such as defense and security (especially shipbuilding), labor, education and training, culture and tourism... continues to develop.

"In difficult times, we still find the best way to come together, cooperate and develop. Vietnam identifies relations with traditional friends, including Poland, as a priority in its overall foreign relations," said the Prime Minister.

The two sides agreed that there is still much room for stronger cooperation between the two countries, commensurate with the potential and desires of both sides; agreed on orientations and measures to promote bilateral cooperation, with 06 key groups of measures.

Accordingly, further strengthening political trust, creating a solid foundation to soon elevate bilateral relations to a new height worthy of the 75-year tradition; continuing to increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, especially high-level.

At the same time, economic cooperation will become an important pillar of bilateral relations; strive to soon bring two-way trade turnover to 5 billion USD. Consider establishing an Intergovernmental Committee on economic cooperation between the two countries. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has proposed that Poland soon ratify the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA); support the EC to soon remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnam's seafood exports.

The two sides also agreed to innovate and deepen defense and security cooperation. The two sides will strengthen cooperation in peacekeeping within the framework of the United Nations and the defense industry; share experiences and coordinate in preventing high-tech and transnational crimes; promote cooperation in cyber security; and cooperate in transferring technology to produce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Along with that, strengthen cooperation in education - training and science - technology, especially in areas where Poland has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as biotechnology, information technology, digital transformation, cyber security, geology, shipbuilding, etc. This is a traditional area of ​​cooperation and a strength of both sides that needs to continue to promote.

Regarding promoting cooperation in labor, culture - sports - tourism, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam has decided to apply short-term visa exemption for Polish citizens within the framework of the Vietnam Tourism Stimulus Program in 2025. In return, he asked Poland to facilitate visa issuance for Vietnamese tourists.

The Prime Minister also thanked and asked Poland to continue to create more favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live and develop; and to research and determine that the Vietnamese community in Poland is an ethnic minority of this country.

The two sides agreed to strengthen close coordination, consultation and mutual support on regional and international issues at international and multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expected the two sides to strengthen cooperation with each other and with other countries in the world to contribute to solving people-wide, comprehensive and global issues on the basis of upholding multilateralism, calling for enhanced international cooperation, maintaining a peaceful, stable and developing environment in the region and the world.

Vietnam also asked Poland to promote its role as rotating EU President in the first 6 months of 2025, continuing to promote ASEAN-EU and Vietnam-EU cooperation. Vietnam is ready to support Poland in promoting cooperation with ASEAN and other Southeast Asian countries.

Regarding the East Sea, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that Poland and the EU continue to have strong voices supporting the stance and viewpoint of Vietnam and ASEAN on resolving disputes by peaceful means on the basis of compliance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
