On the morning of June 30, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife Le Thi Bich Tran and the Vietnamese delegation left Hanoi for an official visit to South Korea from June 30 to July 3 at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Duck Soo and his wife.

This is the first official visit by a senior Vietnamese leader to South Korea since the two countries upgraded their diplomatic relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022; it is also the first visit to South Korea by a Prime Minister in five years and also the first visit by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh since assuming the position of head of the Government.
The official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife on the working trip included: Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Minister, Head of the Government Office Tran Van Son; Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc; Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan; Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung; Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat; Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh; Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho. Leaders of a number of ministries, branches and local agencies also joined the working delegation.
The visit takes place in the context of the positive development of Vietnam-Korea relations, with the two countries upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022. Political trust between the two countries has been increasingly consolidated, with regular exchanges of high-level delegations and delegations at all levels. The two countries cooperate closely and support each other in regional and international forums.
Korea continues to be Vietnam's leading economic partner, the largest investor in Vietnam with a total investment capital of 86 billion USD (April 2024), the second largest partner in ODA cooperation, the third in labor and trade cooperation, and the largest tourist market of Vietnam in 2023.
Cooperation in other areas such as culture, education, labor, health, people-to-people and local exchanges has been strongly promoted. The Vietnamese community in Korea has about 270,000 people, always receiving attention from the Korean government, creating conditions for them to stabilize their lives, and actively contributing to the relationship between the two countries.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Korea aims to continue implementing the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress and Resolution 34-NQ/TW of the Politburo; affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to promote, implement substantially and comprehensively with high political trust and concretize the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The visit focuses on promoting cooperation in traditional areas of cooperation such as politics, defense, security, economy, labor cooperation, cultural cooperation, tourism and people-to-people exchange, science and technology, health, education, multilateral cooperation, etc. and areas in which Korea has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as semiconductors, supporting industries, digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, climate change response, promoting labor cooperation, cultural industry and tourism cooperation between the two countries; hoping that Korea will continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Korea.
Along with that, strengthen Vietnam-Korea cooperation in regional and international issues of mutual concern and support each other in important agencies of the United Nations.
