With the theme "ASEAN: Promoting Connectivity and Resilience", the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related Summits were held in Vientiane, Laos with more than 20 activities.
The leaders will focus on discussing the process of building the ASEAN Community, including promoting the timely completion of the 2025 Blueprints and building the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the implementation strategies in the coming period; reviewing and orienting relations between ASEAN and its partners, especially promoting cooperation in potential and current areas of interest; and exchanging views on international and regional issues.
During nearly 30 years of participating in ASEAN, Vietnam has been closely coordinating, supporting and assisting Laos in assuming the role of ASEAN Chair in 2024 and contributing to fostering the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. Vietnam's participation and contribution to ASEAN in recent times have been affirmed as: proactive implementation, substantive participation and sincere contribution.
In particular, Vietnam effectively implemented the key priorities proposed by the Lao President; worked with other countries to complete the 2025 Master Plans and build Cooperation Strategies until 2045; and worked with other countries to strengthen ASEAN solidarity and unity in the current context of rapid and complex changes.
Today (October 8), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to meet and hold talks with senior leaders of Laos, including: General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith; Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone; and National Assembly Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane.
On the same day, the Prime Minister will attend the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2024, meet with Philippine President Bongbong Marcos, and work with heads of Vietnamese representative agencies in Laos.
