At the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Mark Rutte will pay an official visit to Vietnam from November 1-2.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has made two official visits to Vietnam (June 2014 and April 2019), and has welcomed our senior leaders to the Netherlands many times. He believes that “the Netherlands is a European friend of Vietnam”.
The Netherlands ranks 18th in the world and fifth in the EU in terms of GDP size, second in the world in agricultural product exports with a modern agricultural model; is one of the most competitive economies in the world, a pioneer in digital transformation and sustainable development, highly open, with developed foreign trade, aiming for green growth.
The visit took place in the context of positive development of Vietnam-Netherlands relations in many areas, notably investment, trade, agriculture and climate change response. The two sides maintain regular exchanges of delegations at all levels, have many bilateral cooperation mechanisms; closely coordinate and support each other at international forums and organizations.
Vietnam and the Netherlands have established a Comprehensive Partnership; Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Response and Water Management, and Strategic Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security.
The Netherlands is Vietnam’s second largest trading partner in Europe and the largest investor of the European Union (EU) in Vietnam. Investment projects are mainly implemented in the southern provinces: Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, etc. Many investment projects of large corporations operate very effectively.
In terms of education and training, many Dutch schools and Vietnamese training institutions have established cooperation relationships in higher education.
Every year, the Dutch Government, through the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has supported Vietnam with a number of specialized training programs on international law, international relations, the law of the sea, and the international convention against torture (UNCAT).
According to the Netherlands Statistics Office, the Vietnamese community in the Kingdom in 2020 was about 20,000 people. The number of Vietnamese students and postgraduates studying and researching in the Netherlands is about 400 students/year, most of whom are self-funded.
